Re: Badass Z31 Front Coilover's
Got all my stuff Back From TIG welding, it all looks really nice, so I am taking all the welded stuff to the certifier on Monday night so he can look at it all before going off to NDT.
Here is some of the welding
Flanges welded on the front struts for the threaded perch to sit on, and a high tensile steel sleeve machined so that the Gland nut on the strut holds the threaded sleeve solid so it wont slip or anything. The threaded part is not welded at all, this means that years down the track if some threads get munted it can be replaced easily.
Here are the flanges welded on to the Rear Threaded perches, Welded inside and outside.
I also had my plastic spring separators ( for the keeper springs ) replicated in high tensile alloy.
not a huge fan on plastic parts on a suspension system
Just need to get the nod from the Certifier before fitting it all up
I have also purchased an RB25 OEM bypass / recirc valve for $10, just to get myself going. and when the time comes to upgrade to a real HKS BOV or something i can use a common place Nissan flange adaptor.

Superb attention to detail James.
All your hard work will reap tremendus dividedends when your pushing 10/tenths in the twisty stuff!

14/05/12 Been to see Certifier with all welded bits in hand
He said everything was totally fine, and my rear spring mount was quote "quite trick" so while i was there I grabbed a business card for a Southern Q/A crack testing people.
So now its pretty much get Crack testing done, and finish the car
16/05/12 Not really an update only an edit
All welded parts are at Southern QA for an NDT crack testing report, their prices seem reasonale for the weld testing
$100 for the first item and an additional $5 per item. at 6 Items it makes for $125+GST inc a report and relevant documentation to the certifier
$10 RB25 OEM BOV is sitting on my desk, its pretty much a template for the flange as the answer was not to be found online.

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx - Slow Progress
Getting closer to being all plumbed up and back on wheels again
Cut up slots in my fan shroud for pipework to fit through, I ruined the first one and the material was horrific to work with.
I have made up templates to close right into the pipes and seal it up so that the rad fan still works and doesn't have a massive gap.
Found some scrap and made up flange and Pipework for the BOV, Real estate underneath the bonnet on this car is getting hard to find but i believe i have left enough room so that an Aftermarket HKS or simialr be mounted up.
I hear conflicting reports on OEM RB25DET BOV's being any good or not, I'm going to try it and see what happens. If it doesn't go properly I can put anything i want on there because i used a common Nissan flange.
Old Rear suspension arms are on the bench with the Gear puller waiting to transfer brakes, bushings, bearings and stubs to the modified set.

Tig welded suspension passed NDT electro mag crack testing inspection and is 100% legit
Wheel bearings ordered through Wilson's, old suspension arms fully stripped down to transfer all the goodies. My mate at high street motors is going to flare up some Bundy tube to make new brake hard pipes( old nuts all seized up )
ETA for back on the ground & drivable is the weekend after this.
