That is the gayest thing I have ever heard. First exhaust noise rules with no clear guidelines, then demanding certification for every single mod in the world, then enforcing rules about tyre/rim width, now you can't have any (meaningful) camber?

I saw some guy on TV get stickered just for having a dildo gearknob the other day even.

They might as well just save everyone the trouble and declare all modified cars totally illegal, rather than taking this stepping stones approach to doing it like they are now.

Not happy!

Oh yeah, nice work on the car James!

Agree but the day it becomes to hard its for sale, and im on a plane to Oz with the missus (I make a reasonable wage for nz but there are far better opportunities for her there to make a reasonable wage but she suffers due to my toy habbit)

Im far from a young hoon but 0.5 over factory spec seems ridculious, I would of said anything up to maybe 3.0 degrees would be a more accurate number for a max round angle. End of the day people running 7+ degree have killed it for everybody.

Keep up the good work James, will be following your adjustable rear platform design shortly have already brought the adjustables from a honda odesey or something to get the correct pieces.

I brought this up on the primera club (it dosn't affect the guys there as much but for alot of them they have track based daily driven cars. So there is a degree of pissed off going on there to over this rule,
I quote this from a guy on there and
"Yeah as usual it's a bunch of V8 heads calling the shots that don't actually seem to have a grasp of modern technology. The tyre stretch one gets me. Some of the rules are rediculous. My 205 tyres on 6" wide wheels was on the outer limit of what you can run and that was the FACTORY spec for my vzr. They should outlaw white wall tyres (because of delamination) and laker pipes (because of the risk of burns). Oh no wait, that'll never happen..."

I also think (just an idea) that all the posts on this should be move to the general section as its kinda going off the tangent of james car and theres still alot more to be said and ideas to be thrown around yet.

No worries guys, Discussion is what its all about be it good or bad

at least we have more information now.

Tonight's job on the car is bending up the new hard brake pipes for the control arms, then doing some final assembly so they can be fitted to the car.

I have done one and it was a nightmare, anybody else who has done this will appreciate how useless the bending tool actually is with all the weird and wonderful angles that car manufactures 's come up with.

I found that i needed to start the angle with the tool and then do the rest very slowly working the line using my thumbs so far one has come out ok, my hand is a bit sore though.

Nice new brake hard pipes were a real Shit to do , pipe bender tool was useless and its radius was far to large for the tigt bends Nissan decided to use.

And after what seems like forever with no actual progress I'm all done

Just need to get out to my old mans and put it back on the ground. for a camber measure up to decide if it all has to come apart again.

It's a bit late for you now, But I have a custom made bending jig for doing brake lines that can do really tight radiai. Those off the shelf benders are shocking.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

I managed to meet my goal of dropping the Z back onto its wheels today.

I am having issues with CV's though, the cheap circlips that came in the cv boot kit are not holding their tension and are letting axle shaft slide out of the inner cv with only a light "tug" So i need to go and burgle some better "C" clips and re install the halfshafts.

Rear Suspension arms are all installed and look mint, my spherical ball spring mount aligns up nicely and does its job well.

Ride Height

Front is no lower than with the 35mm drop lowering springs, what I am going to need to do is put taller keeper springs in the front and a shorter spring so i can get another 10-15mm lower.

Rear is still 4x4 ride height but that is because it currently don't have keeper springs, the rear will get the keeper springs from the front to give me some ride height adjustment and all will be well.

I Guess i will have to wait untill payday as im broke !

Edit , here is picture, arse end is about 30mm lower than before and the car is nice and level now, with the adjustments mentioned above I should be able to get that extra 15mm lower at all 4 corners and I will be much happier with it. and by my eyeball camber looks about 1.5 neg so well inside spec

My friend that failed the other day had a gx71 that was about 50mm off the ground and had about 10 degrees of camber on the rear. Way too wild to be legal. As long as your car isnt crazy im sure it will be fine.

Not really any change from my last post except that instead of stuff just be thrown together to see how it looked its now done all fussy and properly, New High Tensile bolts, shims , loctite and all that sort of BS.

Moved out of the garage under its own power, look for the white cloud by the exhaust !

Front Ride appears to be identical as far as i can tell by old photo's

Rear Ride Height Before

Rear Ride Height After

Measuring to the top of each guard from the ground its 665mm at all 4 corners and sits nice and level, still needs 70L of fuel on board so some slight adjustments may be necessary

So Next Saturday its getting the front nailed back on , couple of shakedown runs down the road to check for any issues.

Sunday its on the car transporter to shift it from my parents farm out to my place in Rangiora.

Then its onto the Jobs list for Cert
0.5) plumb in the Blow off valve and weld fitting onto air intake pipe
1) make bracket for clutch line instead of awesome cable ties
2) Heat Wrap Wastegate Pipe
3) Sort out the mangled average looking gearbox cross member
4) Give brakes a more thorough bleeding
5) Plug in the Wideband to lean it out a little so that its not 12:1 on idle :D
6) Replace average looking chinesee rear keeper springs with some shorter king Keepers
7) Fix leaky valves in rear tires
8) File Tax Return and use for Cert Fee
