Having changed the inlet side, I decided to submit to the temptation of completing the exhaust side as well. It was worth doing as I would inevitably have to change a number of things twice if I didn't go for this option. I also took the opportunity to update a few other things I wasn't happy with.

I'm currently finishing off the dump pipe and remainder of the exhaust system. Once this is done it'll be ready to run again. There's a couple of things to finish in the interior, then it should be close to the certification / club plate process.

The grill is fitted in those photos - but it's difficult to see as it's painted black. Once I finish the exhaust I'll put the car back on the wheels and take some better photos.

Hi all,

I've made some further progress with my project since my last post. The engine is running again after finishing the bulk of the modifications to the inlet and exhaust sides. Here's a video during the first startup after the changes from earlier in the year (with just the dump pipe fitted): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4clz8Sn0Z5I

The exhaust system is now finished and fitted to the car.

I've also decided to change the current 17" Simmons wheels I have now. I'm after a more nostalgic Japanese look, so I have purchased a set of 17" Rota RB-R/X with ZG flares. I'm running 9.5" on the rear and 9" on the front. While I would have preferred to go for a set of 16" Watanabes in the same width, it would require changing my front brakes to a smaller diameter for clearance. This is something I'll consider again in the future once the car is on the road.

I had the wheels painted in a flat dark grey - it probably doesn't suit everyone's tastes, but I'm happy with the result. The tyres are 255/40/17 Falken RT615 on all four corners. While it was tough to drill and cut the guards for the fitment of the flares, the appearance of the car is now what I was looking for. I should have the black rear spoiler lip and BRE front lip fitted in the next month or so.

I have also been working on tidying the interior up.

There's still many jobs on my list, but it is getting closer to the point of certification.

Thanks,
Craig.

Looking great Craig, looks really tidy, did you cut both front and rear guards to fit the flares? Would love to do the same but I can't get my head around cutting the rear guards.

Hi Mike - I cut both front and rear guards to get adequate guard clearance with reasonable ride height. I started with the fronts as they are relatively easy to fit. I am retaining all the guard offcuts, so it's not impossible to go back to standard - but I can't see me doing that while I own the car. If you like the look of ZG flares go for it - once you've drilled the first hole it's that much easier!
