vg30e problems

Post by Lang Inder »

Have recently bought a 1994 nissan terrano powered with the vg30e from factory, problem is it drinks an abnormaly large amount of gas ($40 does about 70km). Have serviced it, new spark plugs, new genuine thermostat, new o2 sensor but no change. Is there any common problems that could be causing this???? (apart from a hole in the fuel tank)

Beautiful motors.
I too have a d21 Vg30e and yes its thirsty wee pig. especially when opened up

Possibly stick a o2 sensor up its bum and check readings?

k, but thats the thing i am not even driving it hard, going easy as everywhere, we live out of town so its getting long runs not just round the streets in town.

My parents have a similar truck but with the td27t and it's waay better on gas

Have you checked the ECU error codes?

Ill assume you havnt.

Find ECU,
Start Motor,
Turn on diagnostic mode on ECU
- Find the selector turn dial fully clockwise
Check LED flash after 3 flashes turn fully anticlock wise
Red light is the L/S number and green is R/S
EG - 4 Red followed by 3green = 43 TPS sensor

Let me know and ill look up table

thats what i was possibly thinking, how do you test them, apart from pulling them out and sending them away for flow testing?

Hand held wideband meters are getting quite cheap nowdays.
Absolutely brilliant tools. I always meant to put one on my a31 slofiro to see why it was such a thirsty pig, But I just sold it instead.

Did you get a genuine O2 sensor put in or just one of the generic ones? Sometimes the generic ones can cause issues as well.

AFM could be dirty/faulty giving incorrect air signals to the ecu as well.....

Agree that sticking a wideband o2 on it will give you an idea if its spitting too much gas in.
