am trying to finish my l16 for the 140j as the head is all done,
bought some flat top z16 pistons .30 over, new bearings etc and then dropped everything off at the engine re-conditioners for machining and checking etc,
two weeks later they rung me and said the front cover was stuffed when it came out of the acid bath, next day dropped a replacement off only for them to tell me that my block was already bored .40 over (i know i should have checked before buying parts, but i just asumed it was standard bore). So my new pistions are useless. Sent the .40 over dished pistions that were orginally in the engine down and told them to just do a re-hoan only for them to ring me and tell me these were also useless as the gudgen tunnels were cracked
Am now abit stuck. Have rung sta parts and they have no l16 pistons in stock and can't get any either, and only have one set of z16 pistons left at .20 over and won't be getting anymore.
I have another l16 block here which i am assuming is standard bore but has a huge pit in one of the cylinders.
I have thought of these solutions but input into what to do would be apreciated:
-Bore and re-sleve my spare block to fit my new z16 pistons
-i have a set of z18 semi flat top pistons here, could i bore out my good l16 block to 85mm??? and would these pistons work on l16 rods?
-Find a set of .40 over l16 standard pistons somewhere

Re: l16 engine building
Sucks. I assume the block has been tanked, can you get it Ultra Sounded and measured to see how much meat you have to play with? My understanding is that Z18et run the same Gudgeon size as an L24, so that should be the same as the L16 shouldn't it? Sleeving sounds expensive, but I guess it doesn't cost another set of Pistons. All the best Lang

Re: l16 engine building
problem sorted, probuilt (the shop building my moter) has a set on the way from ausie, .40 oversize so is just getting a re-hoan, not flats tops though which im abit gutted about. hopefully ready for pick up in a few weeks. Now though, i have this z16 piston set for sale or swap if anyone wants it.
