Shell Sport Series
Re: Shell Sport Series
Those would be minimum weights? Hmm the gruntiest N/A L20a that I can find makes 205rwhp, would be hard to be competitive vs. a 200hp A15 in a car weighing probably more than 200kgs less than a stripped out 280ZX.

Re: Shell Sport Series
You'd be talking a bout rick bone's 1200 coupe?
That thing is mental. The bucks he must have tied up in that thing is mind bendng.......
Lemonhead at 1200.com has an A12 wih ITB's which pushes 125 atw. So 200 is pushing the envelope somewhat.

Yes they are the minimum weights for each class....DJZ wrote:Those would be minimum weights? Hmm the gruntiest N/A L20a that I can find makes 205rwhp, would be hard to be competitive vs. a 200hp A15 in a car weighing probably more than 200kgs less than a stripped out 280ZX.
Remembering even tho your all racing together its where you finish in your class that counts e.g a 1200 coupe in the 0cc to 1300cc wouldnt be taking points from a 280zx with a L20a in the class 1600cc to 2000cc......
So iv been told.....

Shit that's going to be embarrassing when a 1000cc cherry passes me thenRyder wrote: Remembering even tho your all racing together its where you finish in your class that counts

Yeah the old Reg Cook Cherry blew minds back in the day. There is a good write up in the book Revolution.Written by ex performance car editor. Its all about the Japanese car history in NZ. Real good chapters on the Shell Sport cars
Re: Shell Sport Series
Rick bones datto now runs a sr20det and runs in nzgt class from memory. i dont know how they extracted the power out've those shellsport cars back in the day but i'm sure you'd need a fairly healthy budget to do it again now. I see all the dates are set for shellsport rounds but none are in the north island. Enjoyed the class in its heyday and a bit bummed it's not coming north as yet. I run a 1200 coupe rotary on a very tight budget and just enjoy the old cars and the variety of body styles unlike most modern racing.Bartman wrote:You'd be talking a bout rick bone's 1200 coupe?

Re: Shell Sport Series
Did he used to run an A series?
I've got it in my head that someone has a blue 1200 racecar pushing 200 ponies with an A series. I've seen pictures of the engine somewhere on the internet.

Yep same 1200 coupe bart - was in performance car last year - has now been switched to SR20DET ( i think he kept all the gears to put it back to a series.
Im pretty sure it was 200 atw which is even more amazing - was bored to just shy of 1600cc efi etc.

Re: Shell Sport Series
nah it was just over 200 at the engine, NZPC just cant write an article to save themselves.
Either way you look at it though 200hp is amazing, He probably had more money in that engine than most people have in there race cars
