Help with tyres

Post by jas1200 »

Cant decide what tyres to buy and want to here from anyone with 175/50/13 on there 1200..............So i,m selling the 15s as I have brought some 13s because there lighter and will lower my car some more. With lowering in mind 175/50/13 will drop the car an inch from the 195/45/15 on it at the mo.
But 175/50s will stuff up the gearing big time, who,s running these tyres, is it recomended?????

im running 175/55 13 rims on my 1200 and the gearing is a bit high. motor does about 4000rpm at 100km/h. thats with a 5 speed box and the factory ute diff, which i think is a 4.1 ratio. if you get hold of a 3.9, that will help bring it down a bit

My sedan still has the standard diff in it, I would think it should be a 3.9........However I do have to upgrade as I,m planning a supercharger set up and may be able to go to a taller ratio again, I like the idea that 175/50 will drop the car and alow room under the gards to drop the suspension aswell. But maybe the 55 series are a good compramise, what brand are your tyres....???

H165 is available in:

3.364
3.545
3.700
3.900
4.111
4.375
4.625
4.875

If you can find one of the lower diff - i dont know what they came in but got this list of datsun1200.com.

a 3.3 or 3.5 would be sweet with 175/50r13s - go the yokohamas

I did,nt know there where that many ratios, would just be a matter of finding the right one..........maybe go the 50 seriers and just put up with the high rpm until I get a H165.....

I asked at tonys tyres, the only options they gave me where 175/50 and 175/60.....no 55 series....the height diff between the 50 and 60 is 17.5mm, thats a lot when trying to lower a car. I,m keen for the 50 series, it,ll make me fit my 5 speed quicker. I,ll just drive around in 5th until I get a good ratio in a H165 in there........Thanks guys.

175 50 13s are the only way to go! Iv got them with a 3.7 diff and its a good ratio. They look awesome and you can get low without guard rub.
