just dropped a a12 into my 310 sunny.
Need to know if I have water coming from the head where the gasket is, is that just a stuffed head gasket???
I hope it is.

Re: a12 question
most likely a head gasket, but could also be a cracked head. if you take it off the do a head gasket, take the head to flemmings cylinder head specialists in sockburn. get him to skim it, crack test and pressure test it. might as well get it done, cheap insurance on an engine

Re: a12 question
could be off the beaten track, but I pissed water out everywhere
when I put a motor in my 1200 a wee while back, cause the head I used
had water jacket holes, coming through the side of the head above
the inlet ports! must be off some different manifold arrangement or
emission system? nothing some short screws and maniseal didnt sort out

Re: a12 question (now the Timing please)
Bloody hell, head gasket on the wrong way, lol.
Now tips on setting the timing, I know to set it about 12, but at the moment I stuck the timing light on it & it reads above 20, how do I adjust it, I know its to do with the dizzy.

Re: a12 question
Sounds like it might be a good thing to buy a Haynes Manual. They really are good and very useful. People on here are happy to help too, but books can be far quicker and easier.
The distributor is located to the block by a 10mm headed bolt through a plate on the bottom of it. The plate is slotted, just loosen the bolt a little and turn the distributor, pull toward the vacuum hose to advance and away from it to retard. Timing should be set at about 800rpm, with he vacuum hose disconnected. If your engine has been modified and you wish to run 91, I'd say 12 would be a maximum safe limit to run. Ensure the 10mm is tight when finished.
