My new heads in its rightful place, finally :strangle:
Fuel pumps all good to go, just got to finish off the carbs and a few other minors then hopefully her new heart will be pumping! :dance2:

Update:

She's almost ready to be fired up...

Got the carbs on & choke cables in.
20120925_192011.jpg
I had to modify the fuel rail slightly, mainly due to the brake right on the end of the mount at the front of the head.
I've also been having some fun trying to sort a way to connect the intake manifold water return, back to the lower radiator hose inlet... As I was never given the hose/lines used factory with the twin SU's
20120925_192109.jpg
And seeing as I didn't have a twin carb firewall throttle linkage, I mildly influenced my single downer to work the way it needed to. :deadhorse:
lol Nothing obvious, except the return spring... I now know a better place for it too!
20120925_192118.jpg
I've now got the alternator and radiator refitted, just not the top hose fan or belts as yet.
I hope to have the starter motor back in and the manifold water return hose sorted in the next couple of nights.

In other news:
The doctor has confirmed that (Without any further seizures) I will have my license back on the 23rd of October! 19 months is along time..
But, I do want to get her done before the now confirmed surgery happens.
I will be having the end of my LH index finger amputated as a result of a accident involving a woman opening her car door on me, whilst on my pushbike. Oh the joys..

Well, she's all back together, minus the starter (I couldn't be bothered getting underneath the car with average lighting)

Just got to get all the linkages dialed in, fill the radiator etc with water and slap the starter motor in
then see if my hard work has paid off...

Luckily for me, I have a friendly mechanic around the corner that was utterly infatuated with SU's, which may come in handy for tuning :highfive:

I'll get pics and possibly a video of her first breaths after 7 months.

Glad to hear you're getting close Bert!
Fucking OUCH bout your finger too!!
Pity that you aren't able to come down for Nats. But I guess having that pressure off means you don't have to rush anything.
It's also a huge plus having a helper who is up to speed with SU's. When I had some years back, they ran like arse. I got a mates dad to give them a tweak, and they absolutley sang. Ran super smooth, hardly needed any choke at all, and were super good on gas when driven kindly.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Ok now im pissed off...

First off the intake manifold gasket leaked, due to my ignorance, with no gasket sealant...
20120930_193309-1885677240.jpg
So I bought some 515 and slapped it back together, good right? WRONG :strangle:
Cranked her over and #2 fulled up with water, to the point it was dribbling out the spark plug hole (with the plug in...)
20121001_2117171451219091.jpg
So I took out all the plugs and cranked her over to clear the water, put them back in and tried again.
And the same thing... :deadhorse:
Im certin the manifold was square, but I didnt get the head crack tested
(the joys of my first build and not knowing I should have done one...)

So off with the manifold again, to check its square again..

Shes been fighting me all the way... :fire:
