Took this thing over to Akaroa again today for a run with the Z Club, it's got this weird smoking problem that I can't figure out.
Every so often (it's only happened 5 or 6 times) when coming to a stop it'll puff a big cloud of blue smoke, it's definitely oil as I can smell it. I've tried to reproduce it and I can't seem to get it to do it when I want. I don't think it's the valve stem seals as I can coast for ages then get on it and nothing happens. Possibly a stuck PCV valve? Anybody got any ideas?

In my experience if you run it down a hill on the gears then get on it and it smokes, that's rings. Valve stem seals show up if you leave it idling than give it a rev. eg at the lights, or if it sits for some time then it smokes on start-up. Hope that is of some help.

Re: DJZ's DR30 Skyline
I had a frustrating intermittent issue with the SR like this, turned out the turbo was on the way out and occasionally pushing oil into the turbine housing.
Re: DJZ's DR30 Skyline
Yeah, that's kind of what I'm expecting to find, it doesn't really seem to fit into the other problems it could, rings or valve stem seals. I'll try cleaning out the PCV valve and if that doesn't fix it it might be time for that GT3582R that I can't afford haha. Could always try and GT40 off the Z on it, full drag spec FJ?

Yeah PCV..first
Re: DJZ's DR30 Skyline
Borrowed a manifold off Brock to mock up where the flange needs to sit. It's going to be pretty tight to get cylinders 3 and 4 to the flange.

Re: DJZ's DR30 Skyline
Are you going for the Equal or Semi Equal primary Length ?
Looks like a Great Start,

The Answer to your Question is NEEDS MORE VG30
Re: DJZ's DR30 Skyline
At the moment it's going to be whatever fits, I'd like to keep them reasonably close to the same length but there's not a lot of room with the turbo in the standard position, I'm not even sure how I'm going to do the collector, I think cylinders 1 and 2 will have to come in from what would be the front of the flange and 3 and 4 will come in on the side of the flange opposite the head.
What I'd like is something like this but I'd have to move the turbo forwards. Maybe if I decided to keep this thing past the middle of next year I'll get a ball bearing turbo and make a new manifold/exhaust.
