Garths Daily 310 Coupe

Post by Garth »

So I have picked myself up a Datsun daily simply because it needed to be done. most of you will know the car so photos will be up over the weekend..

plans for the daily are to drop it on its butt and maybe some wheels...or maybe just rock standy wheels, give it a general tidy up and then thrash it round while having the 1200 as the other play toy.

also made some awesome progress on the 1200 today but I better keep those updates to its own thread  HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

haha well unfortunately or fortunately (because it didn't go to someone else), Dan had to part with it due to needing to come up with some cash really quick and he decided he wanted to sell the coupe until his financial situation improves so I now own the coupe.

so im going to tidy it up and do a few things and make it a mean daily driver

Garths Daily 310 coupe

So yeah now own Brendans old coupe. had a bit of a tidy up on the inside and given it some new carpets (half installed) will have photos one day.

plans are to slam and that's about it. currently its having issues starting...have traced it back to somewhere in the ignition somewhere...currently to start it I need to run some wire straight from the battery to the positive on the coil. any clues on what would be causing it would be great

it turns over but just doesn't fire up, as you give up trying to turn it over with the key it nearly starts...

plugs are ok, its getting fuel, testing if the plugs are sparking you don't get much of a spark, doing the same with the lead straight from the coil and there is hardly anything.

temp fix is my cable straight from the battery to the positive side of the coil, gets it to start perfect but I just have to disconnect the cable to turn the car back off..

It sounds to me to be a starting.circuit to the coil fault, may be in the ignition or wiring. The coil runs on say 8 volts normally, supplied through the ballast resistor. But on starting to boost the spark it is supplied at 12 volts. Straight to the coil. Thus 2 supply circuits run from the key to the coil, one for starting and one for normal running. As you let the key off start the normal.running circuit it connecting, that is why it will.sometimes start. Quick fix run a cable from the starter signal wire to the coil, but you will need to fit a diode in it to prevent it back feeding and the coil signal exciting the starter. I hope this makes sense.

possibly the shortest thread ever...looking at selling it if anyone is keen. have another cheap daily and I see myself sinking to much money into this and never finishing the 1200. still having some startup issues as I haven't had time to look at it yet but by temp fix is still working fine. other then that fairly standard 310. comes with new carpets. wof and reg to jun/july. throw some offers at me or let anyone know who might be keen.
