WTB: L Series 5spd gearbox

Post by kicker »

Hi guys, I'm looking for a gearbox to do a manual conversion on my 330.
From what I can tell I need a 81-83 280zx box (with the 0.764 5th ratio), let me know if I've got my facts wrong haha.
If anyone has one or knows where one is let me know,
Cheers
Jeremy

-Edit: I'm now looking for any 5spd that'll do the job :)

Jap spec S130s may not be exactly the same as US ones so just be weary of that, most of the info around is for US cars. Also late model S130s are pretty thin on the ground, you might be better off with an RB box with an L series bellhousing? Will be much easier to find and I think most of them have a tall 5th.

Cheers for the info man, yeah have contacted a few places and they all say they are hard to find too.
Only really wanted a tall OD but an earlier 5spd will still be better than what I got so might hunt out one of them instead.

Do you know if you have the 4.4 diff head or 4.1 - there are 3.9 h190's around aswell to get your revs down. Factory auto ones are mostly 4.4 cos mine revs pretty high when at 100kph

Not sure which diff ratio I have, I was thinking I could change the diff in future if I wanted to drop the revs some more, have been keeping an eye on yahoo for 3.9LSD's and there seem to be a few around but will probably just go open if I got one as they are way cheaper.

How much $ should I be expecting to pay for a decent box?

Edit: just checked and I've got the 4.1
