Brocky and Nev's (Dad) 330 Sedan

Post by brocky41 »

So ive kept this one mostly quiet for a while - i wanted to make it a surprise at a cruise or something like that.

I had the owner contact me as he knew i was into my Datsuns and he offered this to me in "as is" condition. He told me how much he wanted so i rang Dad as he said he was keen to get a Datsun at some stage. We decided to go halves in it and I would put it back together etc and get her on the road.

The owner had lost enough interest in it after his father past away. They had been working on the car together doing the rust etc on it (every 330 has it, dont let antone tell you otherwise, unless you are SKDMRX). So i thought it was quite fitting that me and my dad take the project on.

Dads always wanted a Datsun (hes a Corolla Man) and he was chasing a 120y in hawkes bay and when i found this i said to him "we already got a 120Y and this is way cooler"

Basically thay had done all the hard yards and replaced the outer sills, the lower front guards and bottoms of all the doors, rust treated, primered and sprayed back in the green. Wish they had blown the whole car over but you cant complain. At least its all steel again.

This is what the car looked like when i first saw it.

Got her up on the trailer and brought it back from south canterbury with the mighty skyline - this trip was considerably slower than towing Johns 510, the 260c are just slightly heavier lol And the GT TURBO sticker on the R30 stands for "Got a Turbo?? Cos i Need One"

This was once home and a quick was / dust off

Getting there putting the doors back together. I went through a few cans of WURTH Cavity Wax - great stuff and it will hopefully keep the rust at bay.
The doors were completely bare but was surprised that the box of nuts and bolts were all bagged and labeled as to where they go. Everyone should do this as it made it way awesome at putting it back together.

Then I found these on trade me - 16x7 and the right offset - were on a Jeep cherokee of all things

Wheels On and nearly there

Now on the road - still got a few things to tody up including the sill trims and side trims - has done two away trips and only had a little hicup on each
First trip to hanmer had a fuel pump start to die - 50-70kph all the way home and blew a muffler out on the Southern Cruise.

I still have Johns original front lowering springs and shocks from "The Cedric" so will get into getting it slammed soon - also rummaging up a manual conversion aswell.

Oh and i saw this in town recently so had to get a pic - so many green ones popping up - makes three if you count the diesel one that was on TM

Ok so i found the time to start lowering this,

Heres the difference in spring height etc with the superlow HQ King springs and munroe shocks (these are originally out of Jon (SKDMRX) legendary Cedric. They are alot thicker thus ok being that short as they wont compress as much.

After Front (dropped 60mm)

After Rear 2" blocks - still need to throw new shocks in and cut ubolts (bit long in the eyes of the law lol - only 60mm off the deck).

So next on the list is to get all the chrome sill trims and rear guard trims back on and get it converted to manual. I am also going to get that rubber strip in with the chrome on it for down the length of the car as the old stuff is looking tired,
