Whats happened to the bottom end of your power range James? Have you sacrificed much or is it starting to boost at relatively the same rpm?
I hope that you can kick the arse of that bloody old Jag that your old man bought now!
Cheers
Dave

Re: James 85 300zx Phase 2 complete.
Hi Dave
without even touching the tune it makes positive pressure at exactly 3000rpm from 1st to 3rd
in 4th and 5th it makes positive pressure at 2500rpm.
its pulling more more vacuum when off boost, and vacuum goes to
zero very quickly indicating the turbo wants to spool sooner but its not meeting the right conditions from the tune.
with some tuning I think it can see 5 psi below 3k rpm.
it has huge torque and pulls hard to the redline without any drop off.
the old turbo ran out of puff really fast.
the jag is in bits already, come out to see the old man and take it for a spin Dave.

Re: James 85 300zx Phase 2 complete.
Hi James,
I would be more interested in taking the Z for a spin than a dirty old Jag!
Seriously though thats great news and it really sounds as if you have made minimal sacrifice for a lot of gain.
That car was impressive enough to drive prior to this and I can but conclude that it will be a bit of a weapon now.
Whats phase 3? Replace the 20 year old tyres with some semi slicks, drop it down some more and lets go racing?
Bring on the next club day at Ruapuna.
Cheers

Re: James 85 300zx Phase 2 complete.
I have some Z32 16x7.5 alloys that are nice and light and wide, just asking for some sticky tires, Phase 3 is to install the tuned length manifolds i have built for it and to have it strapped to a dyno so its a bit better tuned.b110sss wrote:Hi James,

Saving for house at the moment, so all car mods are coming from swaps, selling old stuff or building it myself. Progress can be slow at times.
Next track day it should stick a bit better as the Camber and toe for the back end are now adjustable vs fixed.

adjustable boost controller cool, do you mind me asking what a set up like that would set you back

Why not make your own boost controller using an Arduino Uno, pressure sensor and solenoid? Using a PID library you can make it self learn how to not over boost AND hold boost perfect. Hook it up to an LCD display and a couple buttons to set the boost you want and WIN!

Its just this one here guys, $120 in shipping to get it to NZ.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 454970.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
its definitely a lower end basic specification, but hopefully it works as it should. Seems well built and good enough quality.
I'm willing to take a punt on it as if it does not perform as expected or provide enough adjust ability I am going to use the solenoid with another setup
edit/
Hey Ging, i figured that for the price its hard to beat it, considering it comes with some wiring, a solenoid / fittings ect. In the past i have been pretty keen on building the Jaycar Programmable EBC kit. But generally I am not clever enough with electronics to just do it off the bat.
Someone like yourself or Datsunboy is far more suited to that side of things.
