L series heater issues
What a surprise something else going wrong in the Laurel! Well for a while I've noticed that it's been using a bit water, thought it could it have a blown hg but warmed it up a while ago with rad cap off and stuck it in drive, revved up to a max of 2000rpm with foot on the brake and no bubbles from the radiator. So I tried out this Rislone liquid copper block seal stuff the other day. Followed instructions which were empty contents into radiator top up with more coolant and run motor for 5mins with heater and fan on full. Now that I have done this my heater doesn't blow hot air. Well it does when I first turn the heater on but then blows cool air shortly afterwards. I have tried bleeding the cooling system with the rad cap off but that didn't seem to work have not tried the coke bottle trick yet that's next but can't be bothered waiting for the car to cool down after work to stand around in the cold and dark... Could I have a blockage somewhere? It looks like the heater hoses aren't the factory ones. Heater was never amazing to start with but slightly warm air is better cold air at this time of year!
Re: L series heater issues
Possibly a blocked heater tap or heater core. Good luck!
You could try removing the two hoses from the block that go to the heater core, open the heater tap up all the way and jam a hose in there, see what comes out?

yeh do that.
remove heater hoses from motor and hose on one end and see what comes out (make sure heater is on hot).

Re: L series heater issues
Sounds like it could also be thermostat, probably worth changing it anyway if you've never done it.

Re: L series heater issues
Took some pics of the heater hoses just to see if they are actually plumbed up correctly.

Ok so the top heater hose is the one that goes into the inlet manifold on the 2nd picture.
The one I'm really not sure about is the hose that comes out of the middle 'T' section and goes back down to the block, hoses seem way longer than they need to be. Hope someone can make sense of these!

Re: L series heater issues
You might get an Air pocket if any part of the hose is higher than the radiator.
I'd try blowing your garden hose both ways through the heater core. (Start with lower pressure) see how much shite gets blown out. This will also show you if the valve is open. (It's possible that the valve has seized, or the cable has come loose etc)

Re: L series heater issues
All seems to be sorted now. Flushed heater core fluid was coming out through both ends so hooked it back up and tried to bleed it again. Didn't seem to work so thought stuff it and left it as it was but went for a drive a bit later on and tried the heater and it blows hot air now yay.

Well done Greg, Greg the 'T' in the system will possibly be from the LPG system, they may not all be necessary and you may be able to remove some potential difficulties.
