Suspension tech in chch can shorten and rebuild bilsteins easily and fairly cheaply
The Answer to your Question is NEEDS MORE VG30
Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
From memory we put Gemini Wagon rear shocks in ours, Brock may remember. The fronts were the sleeve'd type like you're talking about, had no drama's after that...
Makita one ways, painted red....
However King springs give the best handling by far (from memory 1 & 1/2 coils lopped off) - progressive rate, Scott & Steve both have these fitted in their wagons, both ran actual Cobra's before hand, so will attest to the handling.

Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
Cut kings with shorter shorter shocks was the best move, I think me and Chris cut 2 1/2 coils of mine.

Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
I assume you are talking bout the front scotty, as you will have leaf rear being a wagon?
I have avenger springs for the front that arrived this morning courtesy of Luke.
All going well will have front slammed tonight
As per my earlier post the rear springs appear to be same as Stanza/180SX/S13, so maybe I get some cheap King/dobi 'lows' or the likes off a drift monkey, and cut them down to suit, coupled with some shorter rear shocks.
Will mock up in short term with OEM shocks & cutties ...

Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
GOT ME SOME LOW!
just mocked up on springs, have not shortened shocks or anything yet.
but have cut front avenger springs down (thanks Luke) and slipped in
some cut down stock rears (need to drop another 20mm or so at back
to get rid of mild case of muscle car rake....)
will no doubt settle another 10-15mm once its all bolted up and gone
round the block. will look at the struts & rear shocks tomorrow.
will be about 60mm drop

Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
OK, so assembled up my struts last night, and made spacers up to make springs captive, filled with ATF.
For once I got the ride height right, after quick road test tonight, just a light rub on plastic inner guard,
which I will rip off tomorrow to give me a tad more clearance.
With the mild offset 6.5" mags, I dont think I will even have to lip the inside of the guards, but if I have
problems, it is an option I still have up my sleeve.
Lowered the rear tonight, I have some 'cutties' in there, which need to be another inch lower (and firmer)
but with the Bilstein rear shocks that are in it, the cut springs are still captive (just) after I made some
thinner rubber bushes that go between top of shock and car body. Will do for now, and will revisit in a
few weeks with some stiffer shorter rear springs, and some shorter shocks (or shorten up the bilsteins)
Also all but finished stereo fitout, fitted a wee 2 channel amp for rear speakers, tidied up wiring, and
fitted up centre console & parcel tray.
Will get it in for a wheel alignment before weekend, and also do another few wee jobs. My Brother who
is the financial investor in this project gets in from Oz @ weekend, so have to have it all sorted for him
to drive for the week he is back here.

Re: Kitchs 1982 Sunny SGX
Better pick this up from Mums place and start getting it ready for Akaroa!
need to sort out getting rear end lowered, and few other things sorted.
got some shifter bushes courtesy of Scotty to get it shifting nicer.
still need to get carbs running better too
On another note I went to pull the head off the A15 from this car, there
were two studs still fitted holding head down - well thats what I thought
till I finally got them out
Got stiffed there, and the shanks must be corroded into the block, so when
I eventually got studs out, the head won't budge off the block, even
with giving it the old
