Re: Datto_610's C31 Laurel Pillarless Sedan
Right. Standard wheels back on, still need new front discs can only assume they will be the same as R30?? Will pop in and see Brock soon. I measured the gearbox the other day so I knew which manual one I needed, short or long. It was a bit difficult to get a good measurement but got somewhere around 750ish mm. My internet research as come up with short box = 668mm and long = 800mm so assuming I didn't quite measure properly I'll need a long box?

I've had a 3N71 trans on the ground next to a 71B long box and they were the same length, so I'd go with long.

I thought the R30 used the short box, and the C31 is the same chassis as an R30?
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
Re: Datto_610's C31 Laurel Pillarless Sedan
They don't make a short auto as far as I know which complicates things, it should probably have short box, my old factory manual C31 did. If you try a long box you may find the gearstick is miles away from the hole.
Re: Datto_610's C31 Laurel Pillarless Sedan
All good points. You may find (as I did with the C32) that auto and manual floorpans are completely different and the crossmember studs/holes may not line up with either crossmember if you try to do a swap. Brocky and I found a similar issue when trying to fit a LD28 into his R30, neither box would fit.
I know in my case I found a way around the issue, but in Brock's we had to give up.
I recommend taking some measurements before ripping things apart.

I'm still a long way off from doing this conversion, I do have the manual driveshaft from the r30 I wrecked so guess I'd need a box to match that length and possibly modify gearbox crossmember?

That doesn't sound far off, are you able to compare the C31 Brock has to see what is needed?

Looks like I'll be paying Brock and John a visit on Saturday! Hopefully there is still plenty left of the red C31
