They have some listing for lsd stuff under nismo parts. Might just be the clutches?
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Thought I would share... just fitted a complete 4.3-1 ae86 lsd head into a h165 housing.
needed a very small amount ground out of housing for the head to locate, one diff bearing lock bolt
skimmed down and mounting bolt holes welded, re drilled and tapped.
Otherwise, axles were the same spline count and size.
bearing centres same distance from mounting surface.
No specialist machining required, just a drill press.

I have heard so many different ways this works/doesn't work etc and all along it was fairly simple!

Saves looking for a nismo unit and ae86s are so well represented with aftermarket suppliers, no shortage of ratios, different lsds etc.

That's awesome to hear. Did you take any photos? What bearings did you use? I always thought the bearing diameters on the carrier needed to be turned down but obviously not. Hard to separate fact from fiction when it comes to the Internet folklore

No I used the complete head with carrier, fitted fine, machining down lsd nugget to fit Datsun bearings is a bad idea as it leaves a very small wall thickness for the bearings, 1.5-2mm for memory. Better to make the whole toyota head fit.

That way everything is kept standard, apart from the housing needing modified.
Plus the ae86 diff looks a lot stronger, easier to adjust bearing preload, carrier bearings are a lot bigger.
I did get some photos but they're not very good, and I was a little excited with my discovery and didn't get pics of each step ;)
Pretty sure the h165 in any Datsun has same spline count so this mod could be done to any h165 equipped vehicle.
Would be interesting to try the trd 5.3-1 ratio crown wheel and pinion to see if they fit, id imagine they would.
Only downside is driveshaft flange is different so I will get this changed next week.

Nice to see it worked! I have seen on a couple of jap sites that they just make up a spacer for the d/shaft to diff head

Sorry didn't read it properly first time. Is there a good range of ratios available new for the Toyota diff? Are they trd or aftermarket? Can you re drill Toyota driveshaft flange to datto bolt pattern?

Yeah probably better supply than any other option given Toyotas commitment to motorsport and rallying with the Ae86s.

Better just to get the driveshaft flanged swapped over for $150 odd dollars then shaft gets balanced at the same time.
