KA24DE Help

Post by niccy »

Hello my fellow datsun fiends,

As most of you know, I am planning to KA my 510. Quite a few of you have mentioned a few build threads of people doing this swap into their 510s, hoping any links could be shared?

I am ready to import my KA in now and build it on an engine stand (until winter when I whip that z series out!)

Help would be appreciated, I plan to super charge not turbo!

P.S missy says Hi!

Slowdat replaced the CA18det on his 510, with a KA24de+t.
Maybe PM him as ask him what the pitfalls were?
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Something different Niccy. But KA are old now, why not go for something newer. Maybe a QR25 or the like. Bigger lighter (NA is 7kg lighter than a CA and 36 less than a Z20, not sure if E or S :P ) and more available. And even more different. No need to import either as they are in the X-trail.

HI Niccy,
I Just saw your post that's cool you want to convert to the KA! I haven't done much car
stuff lately or been to NZDATsun for ages - but here is a pic of my 1600.
It has a KA24DE+T I installed about 3 years ago.
I used an engine from a w10 Largo which are quite common and are RWD but
have a rear facing dizzy. Its quite an involved conversion using this engine but
it was fun to do something different.
The KA is quite long compared to an SR/CA and it's quite tight if you are
running an intercooler.
Cutting the firewall for CAS clearance was my main concern but wasn't too
bad apart from having to move the heater slightly.
The intake manifold is a hybrid of the original and modified S13 which
has very similar runner layout. I made a basic steam-pipe manifold and
ran cheap and easy to find RB20DET t3. Old Link ecu(not gd with CAS),
SR20det injectors and Subaru coils.
The KA will mate up to the FJ, Z, and RB gearboxes with slight mods. I used
an FJ20 gearbox with an RB20 Flywheel and custom H/D clutch.
You also need to move the alternator as the pulley setup isn't as friendly
as other Nissans when you remove the A/c +Power steer.
The KA is a great engine I'm surprised how well it revs and when I first
did the conversion I ran it N/A for a while and it was really nice.Lots of
low/ mid range torque sounds good too. With a small turbo it made full boost early ( about
2600 rpm) and was let down by my cars average brakes /suspension :)
After humbling Evo's ,WRXs and GTR's at just 10psi the T3 lost it's exhaust wheel :)

If you need any advice / help don't hesitate to drop me a PM and good luck
