Hi Guys,
I need some technical advice as I am looking to buy another motor to do up to go into the Gloria as my motor is starting to get a bit tired.
I have been looking at a L20e but someone has told me that the exhuast ports wont match up to the L20a if I want to convert it to carbs, is this true?
Also I have been toying up the idea of going bigger in engine size and have been offered a L26 which means the triple carbs etc on my engine can swap over but I need to know what sort of mods I can do to get som extra HP's out of the motor.
Can anyone help?
PS. If someone knows of a L28 that is up for sale I might be interested in that if its not going for stupid $$$

Re: Engine help needed
So what motor is in it at the moment? There's no real advantage to an L20E over a carbed one. All of the L20Es I've seen have had square exhaust port, not sure about the carbed motors but that only matters to what exhaust manifold you run. Some of the very late motors might not have the bolt holes for the carb inlet manifold drilled.
More compression some head work and a cam would be the best things to do to an L26 but you'd still be better off starting with a 2.8L.

I have a L20A and was hoping to get the L20E just to do up and do a straight swap of my current exhaust and triple carb set up as I dont want to go to fuel injection.DJZ wrote:So what motor is in it at the moment?
As stated would love to get a L28 but they are just hard to find at the moment without braking the bank.
Thanks for your help really appreciate it.
If anyone else knows the difference between the two L20's please let me know.
Cheers.
Big A
Re: Engine help needed
Differences would depend on the year of the motor and what it came out of, let us know the head and block numbers off your current motor and we can narrow it down.
Re: Engine help needed
Head number is a P90 and the block number is L20 703120

Re: Engine help needed
If thats snoozins L26 you can get, go for that, and L28s are getting harder to get.
You can always make it bigger capacity easy enough later on IE L30/L31.
Seriously unless there is a hairdryer attatched to the L20E's are gutless wonders - Especially if it has the NAPS system (North American Pollution System).
The 2.6 in the green 260c i had went heaps harder than the L20E's ive driven so with a bit more compression and a cam and carbs the L26 will sing along nicely. And you'd get away without cert as they look the same.
L20E also have tiny ports, which you probably already know, the l20E head i had had different stud mounting points than the L28 Manifold that i matched it up to.
Hope this helps - just saying go L26

Re: Engine help needed
I think my engine may be a L28 that they have changed the 8 to a 0 to get away with paying extra at shaken as it would have a different head number. ????
Now Im really confused.

Re: Engine help needed
P90 is a late L28 head, on the left hand side of the block rear of the engine mount there should be something like N42 or F54 if it's an L28.
Re: Engine help needed
Yes it has an F54 so that means it is a L28. Cool
So now I just need to get the engine freshened up etc.
