60a 5 speed help

Post by beaver »

Quick question,

I chucked the 5speed (60a) in the car and I cant select 5th or reverse. Im 99% sure I could when I first got the box.

I remember noticing that two grub screw type delios (but like 8mm diameter) on the side of the sandwhich plate in the middle of the box were not tight so I tightened them before chucking it in the car. This is the one thing I have touched.

it suddenly hit me these are probably stops for the selector forks or something. Can someone confirm?

you can spot them in this pic, right in the middle, two flat head grub screw things.

And can I just back them off until I can select 5th and reverse or is there something more scientific to set them?

Cheers!

You would be correct the detent balls on the selector shafts are behind these with their springs pushing against the grub screw. Not sure if backing the off will instantly fix the issue, but well worth a try.
Can you get it into the 5th / rev gate but just not select back and forward or are you locked out of the gate?

It goes into the gate fine, just not foward or back once it is over in the gate. Other gears are fine

try backing them off, it may be too much pressure on the detent, hopefully :)
