Help with 82 Blubird (I didn't know where to post)

Post by Smeedle »

Good Day to you all.

I'm new around here.
I have a few questions being a Datsun virgin and the skills of a mechanical monkey.

My 82 Bluebird has a timing issue I think. I gave it to my mechanic 6 months ago due to backfiring and loss of power.
I think its doing it again (the very early stages of what went wrong last time). He replaced all leads and plugs gave the carb a clean and re-timed the distributor. A few other things as well. He did a very nice job. (I trust him in other words, family friend of mine).

Are 82 Bluebirds pron to timing issues? I have heard from another owner he is having timing issues.

What is occurring now is when going up hills or sudden power required, the engine will *shudder* or *miss a beat* only for a moment then continues on fine. Car has done 190k kms and is in good nic. Is this a simple timing issue with the Dist cap or something else. Any assistance on this would be awesome. If it is as simple as screwing a couple of the points in the cap please let me know how. :P

I'm located in Riverhead Auckland.

My next question is this.

Restoration order / Modding the car.

Rust removal -> Paint
Lowering car. (tips on how to do this would be awesome) I'm looking to do the S13 coilover conversion but I don't wanna rattle the car to bits with every bump.

Thank you for taking the time reading this wall of text.

Kind regards
Mike

My 1st tip is, get a haynes manual for your car.
That'll give you most of the info you'll need for the motor.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

I have the manual. I don't think I have the knowledge to fully understand the book. It has helped me with a few things tho.
Thank you for the tip.
