Hi
I'm a newbie to the forum but not to they old datsuns .... I had a couple 1200 utes an 1600 with 4agze, ca18det, L an A series motors none of the conversion I have done myself all these dattos I owned back home in Australia. Now living in Nz I've picked up a nissan sunny ute b122 I'm planning on doing ca18 det conversion an after some info on how to go about it ? I know the engineering laws back home but here seems to be a little different, wondering if any one on this forum has done the conversion an could help me ? I'm living in christchurch.
Thanks sean

Welcome Sean, this is just a welcome post, I have not done any conversions under the current laws. A12 has enough go for this old fulla.
So welcome to the forum, hope to see you around club events in the near future. Be good to see your ute, but be great to get to meet you so come along to some cruises, Datsun running or not, we're a friendly bunch, grab a seat and come for a cruise.
A few pics, old or new would be great, and keep this treat coming with progress.

So long as the mounts are well made, and the welding looks to be carried out by a competent welder, then you should be good to go.
Our rules are considerably free-er than is OZ. BUt stuff still needs to be done properly. There is a book you can buy called, "The nz hobby car technical manual" Which is written by the certifiers. But for a simple engine conversion, you can probably get by just by asking the cert guys anything you're unsure of.
There is actually a forum to do this at. But I appear to not have it bookmarked.

Re: Nz ca18det conversion in a b122
Sweet ! I have done a lot of research back home as I was 20% of the way through a nut, bolt and panel rebuild back home aswell .... It's killing me that my other ute is sitting in my garage back home with new floor pans an a Maddat trans tunnel lol !!
I'm having my ca18det fitting kit shipped over for the build and I think I'll be able to massage the trans tunnel for the box to fit instead of changing the tunnel again that was a mission !! The ute I picked up was on trade me the blue one up from Auckland .... It has the s13 front brake conversion done already which Is good !!
Do you know of any engineers (certifiers) in chch ?

Oh, I missed that you were in CHCH.
Yeah, there is only one nowdays.
Don Hoff. There was two, but there's a hell of a long ugly story that I'll tell you over a few beers sometime.
The maddat fitting kit should be good as gold. If you have any other questions, There's also a thread at oldschool.co.nz in the tech forum where an LVVT certifier answers questions. He's an absolute top bloke too.
It's almost all been done before, so it shouldn't be too hard to nut out what you need.
