Re: 1968 G130 super six
Nice work, cool car. Was this originally L23 powered? If what did you do with the original engine?

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Im pretty sure the bonnet will close. Its in storage so i cant check, but the motor is a few mm above the top of the guards if you look sideways at it and the bonnet has a slight curve. so it should.....skdmrx wrote: Keep the updates coming! can you close your bonnet with the VH in?I love the idea of electric power steering, something I wish I'd known about when I did mine. Are the Barina systems easy to control?I know a mate of mine was having a few issues getting a suzuki system to do what he wanted
The controller is bolted to the motor in the barina. I will have to stick it to the firewall or something. It needs 12v ign supply, up to 40a peak, plus a frequency signal for engine speed and car speed. The engine speed is just so it knows the motor is running, and as the car speed increases, the amount of assist decreases. Seems pretty easy to hook up....
Yea it was L23. pretty rare, cast alloy mid sump, very good runner. I tried to sell it for ages here in australia for the price of postage, but nobody wanted it so now its on its way back to japannzeder wrote:Nice work, cool car. Was this originally L23 powered? Oh yea, finished other engine mount. Basically mirror image of drivers side. Motor is now rock solid.
Might pull diff out today. Its currently a 4.11 ratio h190. It will handle the power i think, but the stock v8 had a 3.5. i think i want something like a 3.6 or 3.7 so once i measure mine ill be on the hunt for a borg warner out of commy/falcon/aus r31

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Did some work this weekend fitting a hilux diff. the stock h190 is strong enough, but the lowest ratio they come in is 3.9:1. the stock vh45 diff is 3.5 and i want to be as close to that as possible
First choice was r31 skyline wagon borg warner but, right size, and lots of ratios, but the only axles the right length are 4 stud. I got a hilux diff from the wreckers for 100 bux. i can get a 3.5 or 3.6 ratio lsd center for not too bad a price and they are strong as.
i cut the mounts off the h190 diff and cleaned up the hilux diff. I put the mounts on the leaves and sat the diff on top. once it was at the same angle i welded the mounts on.
The axles are massive compared to the h190 ones
Sitting in the car.
now i need to decide on brakes. i think i will keep the hilux ones as it will take lots of work to fit discs! and also order a recond lsd center with 3.58 ratio

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Havent been up to much work on the car lately, been working away and moving house and other dramas
Had the last few days of so been atacking a few things and moving to others when i get stuck or sick of it
I was going to run r31 rear brakes but the handbrake cable does not really come out in an ideal place. I found some s14 rears for a good price. They have the cable coming out straight along the diff.
Should work well. im thinking 290-300mm discs.
Next up was the shifter cable. I want to keep it column change so i modified the manual changer and used a b&m shifter cable. Its pretty hard to change as the cable only has 67mm of travel. I have had to make a short linkage on the box and this has made it pretty hard to shift. also the cable is hard to move with the bends i have put into it.
I have been told to try a more heavy duty cable so ill see how that goes when it turns up
This cable bracket is semi permanent. if it works well its staying, a bit dodgy on the power steering motor but should be ok
I might make the arm on the gearbox longer, it will be easier to shift, but i will lose 1st and 2nd gear. Its only a cruiser so maybe it will be ok, i will have to see what happens
I kept the tunnel from the other g130 i wrecked.
Panelbeating is harder than it looks! I will attempt to fit this somehow...
I was going to run a hilux a/c pump, then i found a n14 pulsar pump (left) which was pretty short and nearly fitted in the top of the vee,
then i was cruising the wreckers and found a tiida a/c pump (right). its a smaller diameter body and fits nicely up the side of the motor.
About 20mm off the chassis rail so heaps of room...
The water pump will be on its own belt and the tensioner is turned sideways so it can pull the belt tight
The alternator is off a vh41. its shorter in the right places compared to the vh45 one.
I will trim the top off it and if im lucky the bonnet will close. I will try it next week

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Shut bonnet!
its missing some bits but its shut!
Bought some NOS parts. Fairly big dent in the wallet
Im looking into getting some custom windscrens made as they seem to be unobtainable. I have looked everywhere
Got the accesories all connected up. Might get a 10mm longer belt on the AC and alternator as the adjuster is a little close to the ac pulley. Maybe just a smaller tensioner
Finished alternator mounts so now the front of the motor is finished
Next job is to locate a radiator. I can get a NOS radiator but it will be a bit expensive i think and maybe not up to the task? I know my mate fitted a VL one pretty easily so i think thats what ill do. Plus i have plenty of room!
I have to do the sump and oil pickup next and somehow fit the transmission oil lines and filter past the exhaust, steering, and sump.
Im away on a 4 week job near canberra starting sunday so ill leave you with this pic of my new hubbies!

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Had a few days off work for a change so i have been flat out on the car.
Accelerator pedal mounted
Stock v8 cable fits nicely
Finished off the shifter. Made a bracket to hang off some of the gearbox bolts
Engine out
Extended pickup. Its pretty rugged but thats all the pipe i could find lying around
The sump is pretty small. Its the biggest i could make it. 5mm off the steering, crossmember, suspension etc. I didnt want the bottom of the sump to stick out below the crossmember
It looks like somebody has already had a go at the pickup at some stage in Japan, the drilled holes dont look original
Dipstick. Only place it would fit...
VS V8 radiator from ebay. Hard to believe somebody in china could make this, send it to Vic, then to Qld, AND make money for $109
Tomorrow radiator mounts maybe

Great progress, the sump is coming together well. This will be a cool cruiser.

Re: 1968 G130 super six
Hi I am restoring a 1969 super six at the moment. have you had any luck with getting a front window, if you need to get a window made I would like to get one as well
