1200/120y spring rates for coilovers

Hey guys,

Those of you who have coilovers in your 1200 or 120y, what front spring rate are you running?

Im mocking up my front end at the moment and think my springs are way too hard (~5.5 kg/mm). There is bugger all droop and basically once the spring gets captive it'l lift the weight of the car. Pretty sure there should be a bit of give first haha. Car will be very low so Im not looking for oodles of travel.

I run HSD coil over kit on my OEM 45mm tubes with monroe inserts, and I have gone with 4kg/mm which is 220 pounds/inch

I read you dont want to go much harder than 175 pounds on streetable road car.
250 pounds plus is up in the realms of full tarmac spec
remember they come out of factory with about 90 pound springs!

thats with lightweight A series running gear, not a boat anchor retrofit

I have not turned wheels in anger in mine but would not want them any heavy I dont think

Running 400 in front and 300 in rear of 510 and 1200 coupe race cars and 250 and 200 in fast road car.

I would say less is more in a street car.
My daily U13 runs 250lb (I think) and it rips my spine out over every bump.
I've been dailying my sunny atm, (Cutties) and it's been like a magic carpet ride by comparo.

Timely that you bring this up as I'm going through the whole exercise myself.
I just had my springs rated and they are 220lb. With the car being lowered to the point where the bottom arms are almost horizontal when stationary ( thats about to change ) it gives a firm, but not over the top ride.
I would really recommend maybe a touch softer for a street car and perhaps upgrade the front bar a couple of mm. Also get some good gas inserts although an oil change in the struts to say auto trans fluid would work wonders.

I have brand new gas inserts (as I have shortened the strut bodys 80 mm)

As I mentioned car will be low, (currently mocked up tucking tyre with 175/50s on 13" rims) so I dont have a huge amount of travel to play with before stuff starts hitting stuff.

Will run with what I have (~300 lb/in) and see how it goes.
