A15's can be made to rev hard, but I agree that A14's seem to rev easier.
The thing which the A14's have over the A15's is the rod to stroke ratio. Since the A14's and A 15's utilise the same conrod, but the A15 has a longer stroke. The A14 has a shorter "dwell" at tdc/bdc. Longer rods make more torque. (Although longer strokes make the best torque as a rule of thumb)
Since the dwell is shorter, the "intake event" has a longer duration (in degrees of crank rotation) meaning more charge finds its way into the cylinder.
Obviously the A series aren't torque monsters in N/A configuration. So they rely on their ability to rev hard to complete the package.
I have a soft spot for the A14 too. I revved an old one of mine to over 9k. (Thanks to a dicky rev counter)

You could just buy my A15. It puts most A series motors to the sword.

Re: a12 performance suggestions
Ported head,
5mm oversized inlet valves,
Big cam,
Headers,
ARP rod bolts,
Shot peened rods,
HPC coated pistons,
and it's running forced induction via a supercharger.
If you're serious, come round some time and take a look.
I'm not looking to give it away, but it's only worth a tiny fraction of what I've spent building it.

I want to build a faster datsun. Bigger displacement, and a better supercharger.

The old saying comes to mind "there ain't no replacement for displacement!" sorry spam post.
