Yeah think that's the plan. Actually not too far away compared to what I thought...... Rear end only needs bump stops fitted.
Front just needs decent springs.
Lewis has the interior.
Just wiring and engine. .........

Re: Luke's GA16DE Coupe...... SLAMMED AT LAST

Post by luke »

due to new year resolutions/ mostly health issues........... no drinking.............today i stripped down the front s13 ca powered callipers......... (admittedly dropped an austin mini full subframe out to deal with too as the gbox to engine oil seal has let go and is binding the clutch plate annoyingly. fuck the brittish, honestly.

and found that i have 2 full rubber seal kits ready to go for the re-kit of the callipers (drinking sometimes works)
they are fully stripped and ready for paint, and if anyone cares to read said post......

big curiousity with the cert rule on bump stops.........
i know full well the WOF law is fit a finger between chassis and Bumpstop.....................

what i want to know is what can i get away with mm wise (keeping in mind i will be going for cert)

any help appreciated

Quoted for truth!

You've come a long way since first we met Luke. From a "I have no idea wtf I'm doin, hey it's 11am, lets open this bottle of appletons", (That was actually exactly how the first time we met went too) to someone who actually sounds like they know what they're talking about.
BUT, since you learned on Datto's, you'll perhaps find the English tin not so rewarding to turn spanners on...............

IDK about your bump stop issue. But it makes me smile that you're wading back into your coupe with a renewed gusto.

the finger to bump stop wof rule will depend on how fat your finger is at a guess,

IMPORTANT MINI STUFF, have you got the flywheel off yet? there is a special puller that attaches to the flywheel with 3 bolts and allows you to tighten a centre bolt that will then pull the flywheel off, it will be near impossible to remove the flywheel by way of a prybar from the rear through the starter hole, if the flywheel hasn't been removed recently it will be tighter than you can possibly imagine, once its off though, and you remove the alloy housing the seal goes in, you will note 3 gears that transfer the drive from the crank to the gearbox.. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT get the centre gear round the wrong way when putting it back in, the shaft is longer in length on one side, if it goes in back to front it will blow a hole in the alloy casing when you try to tighten the casing back up again.

sorry I cant help with your bump stop question.

Dyldo Phillips on here has that tool too. What a fucken joke of a system.
When he is back from holiday we are finishing putting his POS mini back together and on Trademe it goes.

Not sure on the WoF requirements, all I know is that the car can't rest on them and must prevent the wheels hitting the chassis should the suspension fail, for cert. I have been talking to the cert guy here regarding my new 280zx coiler setup for my 510 and he was saying that since he can't measure up the bump stop clearance (i have internal bump stops) that he will have to drive the car with the springs off or I need to get external bump stops.

In other words, he will measure the distance between rest height to the bump stops and check to see if the chassis will foul if the suspension fails.

Probably doesn't help you but thought I would share anyway.

Simms is always buying scrap metal.
fill the fuel tank with sand before you take the mini's down and get more $$$ to spend on the Datsuns.
