Can anyone help please? after a little advice.
I have a mate that has moved to OZ and left his trick Datsun parts back in Palmerston North.
He has just brought a mint 1 owner Datsun 1200 sedan and is looking at sending his ex race car A14 engine and Dellortos over to Perth.
He has tried a few companies like Mainfreight etc but they have a said they wont send them because A: they are car parts and B: he is not a company looking to export.
He would probably have the engine and few other parts palleted up and sent ex Palmy.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know, surely someone has done this before also how did they get on with customs.

I sent a gearbox over to the States a couple of years ago using NZ Post basic courier express. Price wise they were not too bad and it was over there in about 3 days. The buyer was blowen away at how good the service was.
I did package the gearbox up very carefully in a custom made box and of course drained all the oil then wrapped in a sealed plastic bag.
Maybe worth a try?
Cheers

as above, with emphasis on crate it well, and remove carbs and package separately and securely might pay to take pics of it packaged as well.

NZ post have weight and dimension limits for export, gearboxes just scrape inside the limit.
You prob need to use a freight forwarder of some description.
what about PBT or DHL?
but agree, must be his favourite motor to go to the trouble/costs of trying to freight it - would think you would be looking at $1000+ costs/dutys/gst etc

Cheers mate, engine is broken down to make it easier for freighting, Photos definitely a good idea for proof and for customs.2 doors wrote:as above, with emphasis on crate it well, and remove carbs and package separately and securely might pay to take pics of it packaged as well.

Yep they do sell them in Oz but not to the spec this engine has been built. He spent a lot of time, money and quality custom machining as it was a race engine. Freight cost would be a fraction of what it would cost to try build another one without the same NZ contacts it would be much more difficult.tlssunny wrote:do they not sell a14s? and dellortos in aussie??? to me it seems like a waste of money....

Cheers mate, Yeah I have suggested DHL to him as I import with them through work which we are looking into, just thought I would see if anyone had any further ideasKitch wrote:NZ post have weight and dimension limits for export, gearboxes just scrape inside the limit.

It definitely is his favourite engine, being a mechanic he used a lot of quality parts and great kiwi machining specialists, He was expecting that sort of money for freight but worth it due to the spec of the engine and knowledge of the build.
Its a weapon with very few hours on the clock since he built it.
It will blow the doors of the 1200 its going into
If it doesn't end up getting sent over it may make its way down into my garage for future projects
