Datsun 1600 SSS

Post by Prossy »

Dear Datsun owners
I am a new member and look forward to participation with the club.
My car is an original 72 1600 SSS an wonder if a member can assist with information re production numbers.
I believe this car to be original but the serial number on the ID plate does not match the number on the firewall.
The original ownership papers also agree with the ID plate.
I have read some articles that advise this may be the case, that the two numbers do not agree.
Can any members enlighten me that this may be correct.
Thank you for any info.

Welcome Prossy, the 510 SSS are a very nice car, we look forward to seeing you at up coming events, our next one is a short cruise to Rakaia ,Via Ashburton. a lovely day out.
The number being on the fire wall confirms it is a Japanese assembled car, (as only the SSS were) but we will have to wait on someone more enlightened than I to confirm you information about them varying.
I look forward to meeting you, and your special car.

Some questions:

-What is the stated HP figure on the tag?
-Does the rego label say SSS or just Datsun 1600?

Also :useless:

Engine tag says 109hp @ 6000rpm
The original ownership papers from way back in 72 also quote that it is a 1600 SSS
will put some photos on shortly as soon as I can work out procedure.
Everything tells me it has a production no of 480457 but the number on the fire wall
is P510 488546
Thanks for your replys

Sounds like it's had a plate and tag swap with another SSS.

I'm with broke.
If the number on the tag doesn't match the fire wall then it's had a number plate swap with another car.
Doesn't necessarily mean it's not a SSS though, just the papers you have don't belong to that car.

It may not even be a 72.....

You're lucky you haven't been failed a WOF for this yet.
I'd get that firewall number covered up with something before someone sees it and starts asking questions.

Do you happen to have extra parts or just the car?
