Mechanic with 260c experience

Post by Dave Hammar »

Hi, Im a new member in Chch and am trying to get a 260c back on the road. It has a fuel blockage problem. I have had a mechanic look at it and he has taken it as far as he can. He has advised to have the Carbi reconditioned which I am in the process of doing. My concern is when I put the Carbi back on, any crap in the fuel lines may end up back in the carbi. I was wanting advice/help about draining the tank and clearing the various filters etc. I believe there are a couple of filters in the fuel lines that someone unfamiliar with the 260 may not be aware of. My knowledge is fairly basic so generally pay mechanics to do the work. Can anyone recommend a mechanic with this type of experience. I may also have to replace the radiator as well, and was thinking of having the existing one rebuilt?
cheers

@ that spring to mind are John?? on the corner of North Parade and North Avon and Alan Taylor, now rumoured to be out in Rolleston? John worked on these when they were new and has the sweetest 1200 SSS.

I would have thought that fitting an inline fuel filter before the carb would be perfectly adequate for preventing stuff getting into the carb.

When Brock was working on 260C's errrday he also discovered that the electric fuel pump has an internal filter that gets blocked up. If you haven't already done it, then it would be advisable to open the pump up and inspect/replace that filter.
