Mid november on the rail trail?? Are you nuts?? Ive done it in this time of year and it wasnt that hot but november would be roasting You need a pretty good bike for that track unless you like having a sore ass

this is true. I rode from weiderburn to lauder, (which is a sweet section to ride, has two tunnels and a chioce bridge over the poolburn gorge) and I had to ride from otirihua standing up cos my arse was sorer than gregs after Dan's stag do. (sorry greg, but theta was the best analogy I could think of) You really need to wear pants with a padded arse.
