Post by tlssunny »

so I just brought a A series dog leg gearbox (63a) without a front housing/bell housing and now the guy is telling me its actually a L series and he also said that a A series front housing will bolt straight on no worries, can anyone confirm or deny this please. I don't want to waste my money etc

thanks heaps

Yes, if it's also a 63A A series bellhousing.
No if it's a 60 series one. I didn't quite follow in your txt that you meant 63-60. I thought you meant between 60A, and 60L.
The input shaft is different too. The OD of the L series input shaft, is larger that the OD of the A series spigot bush. It can be machined down, but without the 63A bellhousing, I doubt there's any point.

The numbers on nissan gearboxes, (56, 60, 63, 71, etc etc) denote the number of millimeters apart the two shafts are. So as the number gets bigger, and the shafts get further apart the gears get bigger too.

Or so NZdatman told me about 9 years ago.

If it a short box? A short tail housing 63 series L series box is still a sought after item.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
