What amazes me are the number of listings wanting good money but not doing much to confirm the details or quality of what is for sale. In this case it would not be hard to spin the gearbox over and count the turns in 1st and 5th. Then buyer would get a much better idea of the closeness of its ratios and if it is a 1 to 1 5th gear.DJZ wrote:This is the most amazing load of crap I've ever read, Maldat at his best? With the price of 510's in NZ getting pretty stratospheric lately this 68 Bluebird SSS sedan in Japan looks like a bargain. Even with the import fees etc you definitely couldn't build one this nice for the same money here!

Think you missed a zero in your calculation, its advertised with a current bid of 1,900,000.00 (not at reserve) or roughly $24,000NZD. A buy now of 3,980,000.00 which is over $50,000 NZD.......
I would be happier with any of the sub 20K examples for sale in NZ recently.

There haven't been any 68 Bluebird SSS sedans sell in NZ at all that I'm aware of, much less for under $20K.Flauski wrote:broke wrote:With the price of 510's in NZ getting pretty stratospheric lately this 68 Bluebird SSS sedan in Japan looks like a bargain. There's no way you could build a car that nice with all those rare bits even for $50K NZ. Just the early SSS dash, steering wheel, garnish panel etc can command some fairly eye-watering prices on their own.

Just to get you fizzing John, I know of two 69 sss sedans in Christchurch that were brought back with the military at the end of the Vietnam war. Have met one of the owners, havent had the pleasure of seeing either of them yet.broke wrote:There haven't been any 68 Bluebird SSS sedans sell in NZ at all that I'm aware of, much less for under $20K.Flauski wrote:broke wrote:With the price of 510's in NZ getting pretty stratospheric lately this 68 Bluebird SSS sedan in Japan looks like a bargain. Maybe I am wired differently. I am would not pay double / extra $25,000.00 for the same car with some cosmetic differences.
Re: Trademe/Yahoo Japan Auctions
Maldat has/had the only 69 sss sold new by Nissan all others where bought in either new or used privately. To add to that the 68/69 sss dash was fitted to cars made from sept 68 on. I have an August 68 sss which was privately imported and registered as a new car early in 69. My car has the original standard low dash. For awhile I wondered if my car's dash had been swapped but I bought it first time around in 1973 and consulting the parts book confirmed it as the correct dash. My car also has factory tinted windows.
