Jessie's 1976 120y

Post by datgirl »

Hi guys, this is my first car, an original 1976 Datsun 120y, brought her from Hawera in April 2015. Paid $700 for her fully driveable but is de-regd. There are very little parts missing. As you can see from the photos has had quite a life before i got her. The final nail was the t-bone she received.

My plan is to completely strip her back to bare bones, fix up rust and completely repaint inside and out and thinking of changing the faded green to a yellow. The motor is a runner but according to my brother and dad who are majorly helping me through this process... it needs new valve stem seals (blows blue smoke on start up) otherwise seems to run sweet. Plan to replace the usual bits and pieces and give the engine a good clean up before putting it back in. Upholstery is pretty good usual cracks in drivers seat and dash pad.

I have a set of 5.5 hotwires but would like to replace them for some 7 inch hotwires. Planning to be my daily driver. Have started the restoration as you will see in the photos.

My brother is Cole (twin120ys lime green B210) and my dad hasn't made a thread yet but has a 120y sss Lol

Long time, no update. Thought it was time for an update! We have had some successful progress lately. We have stripped the engine, which is now at the re conditioners. Looking like it is in good shape! Today Cole painted the running gear after I have just finished wire brushing, deoxidizing, and prepsoling it. Dad has been welding lots of patches on the shell. We are now prepping the underneath of the shell ready for new underseal.

Shit that’s some good progress. I’d be stoaked if my family helped me out :strangle: Would prob start a few arguments though.

Plans for engine? Colour?

Today was a big day - I attacked some of the major rust issues. Most were issued were double skins met and they've rusted out

Photos of the passenger foot well repair, inner sill to floor where two skins meet.

Next photos are under the right hand top chassis rain, rusted out where the water runs out

Last images are the right rear wheel arch, quite a mess really. 3 skins and half of it swiss cheese, some non existant! Half way through that now, I've started on the inside and will work out to the seen still and wheel arch.
