I guess the sunny is the closest to completion, but I don't plan on making it road legal at all. But, that would fun having a cruise. Hi I visit this forum frequently and have been meaning to introduce myself for a while. I am another bitten by the Datsun bug. It started for me in 1973 when I was 19, (yes I am almost an official coffin dodger) anyway back in 1973 my younger brother had just bought a Fiat 125 and it made my Hillman look a bit pedestrian. I wandered around the local car dealers asking if they knew of any Fiats. One suggested I should try a Datsun. As I muttered Jap crap under my breath I was dragged around a selection and shown a 1970 green 1600, a 1968 red 1600 sss and a Prince Skyline GTB. I took the red sss for a drive and you can guess the rest. I often wonder about the GTB with its factory triple webers. I was steered away from it as they already had someone lined up for it. Within 6 months the sss grew a roll cage and was rallied until 1975 when I bought a 510 insurance write off. This car competed in the 75 Heatway rally, (one of two cars in that event in BRE colours) We “borrowed” the sss motor which was standard apart from a mild cam. The sss was later sold and replaced with a 710 sss. Then I rebuilt another 710 sss to be a rally car but it turned out too good and we traded both 710’s on a brand new 910 zx. The 910 was sold to buy a house and the 68 sss bought back. I rallied 510’s until the mid 80’s then with a young family the car was parked. In the 90’s a new car was built as a classic race car. That car was written off at Manfield in 2002. I looked for another shell but eventually reluctantly resorted to using a 72 sss I had tucked away. I didn’t want to bend a sss and I kept looking for a suitable shell. Next I rebuilt the 75 Heatway 510 and that is my current race car. The 72 sss is now virtually standard and being used as a second car. Recently it was decided another project would be deferred and the original 68 sss would be restored. Recently the doors where removed and stripped down. I was a bit nervous as this is fitted with factory tinted windows. As time permits I am stripping my sss to a bare shell and removing the under seal. My car is a 68 model but was registered as a new car early in 69. It is quite possible it was the only 68 sss registered new in NZ. Since 1973 I have never seen another.
This site as it is a great source of inspiration and motivation, it is heartening to see cars being rescued restored and used. I am also looking forward to one day seeing the club bbq trailer in action.

thanks. will need to rebuild motor got oil in radiator last time it was running in 90s body still in good nick and interior .will do bushes etc.
engine coming out next month. cant wait do drive my car again. Not sure what the value is on 160j sss as not seen any for sale . any ideas. I need to insure.

I own a '75 610 sedan. It's been given to me by my father whose owned it since '77. He served his apprenticeship at tench brothers in chch which is where the car was sold new.
It's been off the road since 2011 and at this stage I'm planning to just get it road worthy and go from there. Generally in ok condition, very original and with basically no rust so hopefully not too much to do.
I'm looking for a few odds and ends as far as parts go, if anyone in the chch area has some.

My Datsun obsession began with my first car. I was tossing up between a MkII Escort, Series I RX7, and a '73 140J - I went with Gloria, she knew what was best. I was 15 and growing up in Wanganui, and the datto enjoyed many a trip up the Mt snowboarding.
As I keep dipping in and out of the country - I once had to sell her to fund an adventure. I regretted it, and strangely when it came time to buy another - she appeared top of the listings!
I ended up travelling south and relieving Bart of a 1980 b310 140y coupe instead.
I've spent the last 4 years in the French alps, far away from anything remotely Datsun. I'm now back in NZ and looking forward to getting the b310 out on the road this summer...she's been 'coupe'd up too long
Upon returning I also picked up a '93 c23/Vanette/Serena...I've converted it into a lil camper for me n the missus to do weekend trips on (her first time in NZ).
If there is anyone in the Waikato that could lend a hand on this it would be great (I'm down to one, having just undergone shoulder surgery).
It's 4wd and comes standard with an SR20...as I live in the mountains I have some wild ideas about over exaggerating the 4wd part of it...and maybe GTi-R modding it.
