As soon as we sell my car ill be back with a datto. 1200 sedan is the plan and I currently have one lined up but as you see I have some nice plans for one so I have my eye out for one that may be cheaper and more of a project. There may already be something posted up here that maybe able to help me but have not found much so far, however if there is just point me in the right direction..
Currently I have an fj20 with box lined up that we will drop into the front of the 1200 eventually...however ofcourse I need some advise on the way to go with this and what is fully involved...
Everthing anyone can think of on doing a conversion like this please let me know. Main stuff I need to know i guess would be:
- Engine mounts, what mods need to be done and the best way about doing it
- Cross member, again same story what might work best etc
- Running gear in terms of brakes, diff and all that stuff too...cheap and strong is ideal but we know life doesnt really work like that
- Getting the fuel to the motor also could be important to...need to change fuel lines etc?
Anything missed just let me know...I know its not going to be easy or fast to do but it sure will be nice when its done...
Will eventually get pics when i finally decide on the car.

FJ20 is a pretty heavy for a poor lil 1200......maybe you should go with a CA18
1969 SSS Nissan Bluebird coupe

Re: FJ20 into 1200
nah fuck it just go for an FJ. CA's are in everything.
you'll have to cut the engine mounts off the crossmember and make ne ones to suit the FJ. You'll also have to fabricate part of the tunnel, you may get away without it if you get an auto shell as they have slightly bigger tunnels.
For front brakes if you have/get hold of a 1200 disc brake front end, bartman on here does a bracket to bolt on s13 front brakes that will fit under 13" rims too.
Diff you may get away with a 1200 ute diff which is slightly bigger than a std 1200 diff but if you're going turbo you'll probably want something like a shortened hilux.
You'll have to end up redoing fuel lines and a pump as your going from carb to efi so at the least you'll have to run a return fuel line
Lastly the FJ IS a big motor so you're more than likely going to run into issues with your mounting your clutch master cylinder as the intake manifold will probably want to go right through where it needs to be but if you can leave the brake mc where it is its pretty straight forward to mount just a clutch mc under the dash.

Re: FJ20 into 1200
Haha that was my thoughts...CA's are nice but always wanted to do an FJ.
Ok sweet that is alot to think about, really helpful stuff. Guess I need to get myself a body and go from there. May even be keen to go for a 1600 which i guess would fit an FJ in it abit easier.

I obviously can’t speak for them, but perhaps either Damon (dattodevil) or Wal (2 doors) might be willing to come with you to give it a look over. Damon is the resident datsun mechanic and Wal is the datsun rust repair king so he’d be able to tell you how much money is in fixing the body up.
Re: FJ20 into 1200
yeah id be happy to look it over for you

I am free the next two days if you want me to organise viewing it? The help would be much appreciated!
