Well as im a bit short on money right now to progress with the next stage of my 140J i thought id play around with parts i already have.
I have a pair of R31 struts from a RB20DET Auto Sedan that i planed on using i have cut the spring seats off and slid a spare set of 140J seats on (they are yet to be welded as i havn't confirmed a hight yet)
What im wondering is are all R31 struts a hub/disc combined style setup or did some of them bolt on the back like the earlier datto ones. I wanted to change the front to 5 stud to suit a set of rims i have rather than buy new rims.
I have a pair of Z31 5 stud hubs but they are set up to have a separate disc bolted to the back.
I was originally hopeing i could just swap the hubs redrill the disc and bolt it on the back like it was before and away i went but unfortunately i can't do this with the current setup.
If there is a separate hub disc R31 strut i will probably keep an eye out for a set as converting them to 5 stud will be so much easier.
If not then i need to think of another way. Id redrill the hub/disc but its not a smooth face it has 4 indents that will get in the way.
Any ideas on how to solve this will be great. I want a stock standard looking setup so hopefully i can slip though wofs with out certifying it and also a brake upgrade to.

Re: R31 Struts
do the Z31 5 stud hubs not bolt up to your struts? if they do, that would solve your problems wouldnt it?
failing that, i would jump on the skyline or sylvia forums and see how people have done a 5 stud conversion on their cars

Re: R31 Struts
Yea i have a set of Cedric Y31 hubs and calipers believe it or not (rare as any if anyone has any rear stub axles from a IRS model then id be keen for 1)
I have tried fitting them up but the calipers won't bolt on.
Hows this for an idea. Redrill hub and then get a 5mm slip on spacer made and screw that to the rotor its self. This covers over the area where you can tell its been re drilled and also the extra 5mm would be just fantastic.
If anyone has a set of Z31 struts id love to give them a go i would just need the strut and caliper as i have hubs and discs. (the hubs are the bit thats worth the money).

Re: R31 Struts
Sweet will do. My struts are turbo struts (well unless someone changed them in the past) they have the larger caliper bolt spacing.
I just want a stock looking 5 stud hub option.
Are the stub axels the same with the slip on type of R31 stuff as they are with the non slip on.
Im pretty sure my Z31 hubs will fit the shock i just wanted to keep a stock caliper and bracket so that at WOF times the WOF man just cast his eye over them and moves on rather than getting drawn in by washers and spacers and overly large discs or calipers etc.
At au guess im thinking that the Y31 bolt spacing at the bottom of the strut would be the same as the Z31 as it was larger and thats why i didn't keep the struts.
(that was an incorporated disc hub setup 5 stud)
Grr stupid wheels muilty fit at the rear and 5 stud only at the front.

they do but you need to change the springs and cups to 1600 diameter.nosebleed wrote:do all r31 struts bolt up to 1600s and most dattos???

Re: R31 Struts
sweeeeet....
will acquire a set for post re-vin mods... have coilover sleeves to go on them..
ill end up cutting off the spring cup and make up a thick washer type deal to weld onto the strut tube for the sleeve to sit on..
