SSS 1600 compared to run of the mill

after a heap of calls etc and head scratching im really unsure if my datto is actually a SSS..

so,what are the differences between a stock model 1600 and a SSS??
have been told there were no SSS nz assembled, is this true?
id read somewhere that there were SSS built in nz and were never number stamped on the firewall,only body tagged.

very keen to learn more about them.....
especially after i was told it was a SSS by the guy i got it off, and after ive been told its not a SSS by someone else... :baseballbat:

no NZ assembled 510's had the chassis number stamped in the firewall.....only a body tag (as far as I know)
if it has it a number stamped in the firewall, then its a Japanese assembled car (or maybe Aus....dont know what they got)

not 100% sure, but I dont think any SSS 510's were assembled in NZ (including maldat's "only NZ new SSS on trademe lol)

so a SSS would most likely have a number in the firewall, and also a body tag that had a higher HP number on it than the stock ones. should also have the dash, grille badge, rear vent badges and a 1600SSS badge on the back of the car
obviously the SU twin carbs aswell if its a stock engine in it still.

I have heard stories of extra strengthening around rear arms e.t.c. on the SSS aswell, but I have no idea if thats true or not

sounds pretty spot on to me dan. definatly 510sss jap assembled, the only sss's assembled here were 1200 and 120y

ok,so where does this chassis number live on a true SSS??

im eager to find out if mine is actually a SSS or a run of the mill 1600, if it is a run of the mill ill be pissed cos i was told it was a SSS..

mine has the SSS dash,and rear vent badges..
are the door cards/seats different?

mine obviously doesnt have any seats though :cry:

chassis number should be in the firewall.....on the drivers side kinda in-line with the wiper motor.

SSS seats should have a little plastic chrome decal

it has D8334 stamped on the radiator support panel..does this mean anything??
other than that there are no other numbers i can see... :evil: :baseballbat:

the number on the radiator support panel is the factory paint color code I think? :idea:
