Most of you will have seen this, but id like to put it here too, please?
You lot are switched on, nobody else cares, and ill need assistance and guidance!!!

As opposed to pasting three pages here to start with, click here for the the updates since Sat Jun 25, 2005

Recently though:

So just been dicking around with SR20DE Throttle Body swap, shopping around for Z32 AFM, filing off all casting marks, checking my 5 speeds and trying to determine what shifter parts im missing.

The weater is warming up which means the shell can come up from my parents place soon, as Ive only a single garage, and my daily has perfect surface rust which I need to manage..therefore cant leave outside in the moisture.

Man this shit gets expensive. Ive now got my entire life on Hold, minimal Food, no Fun, no Bitches, cheap Bourbon etc.
It needs to be this way because the more I spend on shit, the longer I have to wait until Im doing 5th gear stand-stills. And I cant wait!
-----

As promised, heres my tent-pants bits. The other Bumper was sent back from chroming because the polisher polished the easy-flow out of the pitts, so I bronzed them up and file finished, but havent had it dipped yet. Is a good before and after though.

The grille was placed into factory Ford Dyes and tapped out straight, polished and re-anodised. Is yum.

I thought id save up some updates until it was picture worthy..

The result of many hours on the end of a die grinder, just matching the runners to the gasket and eachother. The head is un-touched and the rest made to suit the head:

And heres My CA to SR20DE Throttle body swap. Basically just changed the throttle linkage back to CA, and I will need to modify the plug and wiring to suit:

And some overall shots:

And my new 450cc VR4/Mitsubishi Eclipse Injectors:

Ive tried to show the difference in the length of the injector snout here..will this be useable or will it try and spray the walls and fuck the whole pattern right up? Injectors were from a CA18DET build at XTune in Auckland and said to be a direct drop in.. I had to swap the manifold rubbers to factory CA for them to fit however. Also the plug loom locator its-self differs, so would I be best to cut and join on some VR4 loom plugs or slice off the locators on the Mitsi injectors and rey on the side clips to hold?

Image

The shout of the injector is clearly different:

Note the slight variation in placement and seat in the below shot?

Just picked up my two GTRS Ball bearing turbos off my mates [BNR34] as hes upgraded..for a good deal, now to get them reassembled and balanced.
Brand new front housing make me moist 8)

----

So, my Turbo manifold has a larger hole in the outlet flange than the exhaust housing on the turbo..how much trouble will i get in if I match port the Turbo housing to suit? theres plenty of meat to remove, just wouldnt want to ruin the Turbo at all?

Also, since its lacking the wastegate actuator etc, im pretty keen to run an external plumbed back in down under the seat area/removeable flange for screaming! Now i see all these 'dump pipes' on trademe and they have two distinct holes and a splitter in between, but anyone else ive seen with an external setup just welds the flapper shut. This, in effect will render one of these holes on the dump useless and the whole setup oversize in my confined space..

Also, where is the BEST place to mount an external wastegate for maximum response. I see RBs ans the like throw them right off the aftermarket manifold, but this isnt a viable option with mine.
Ideas?
----

Just a teaser of the Escort engine. Im at a bit of a standstill while saving, so i threw it together partially with the new GTRS Garrett Turbo (GT2871R)

I have a Flywheel now, shes a minter.
Thanks go out to Blair.
----

My brother and I dragged the shell up from my parents shed last nite, a mate helped me put it back on the spit, and within minutes, i had the engine stand sitting under it haha.

So stoked to have it at my place again.

Image
----

I was getting sad with the car, seeing just how much I have to go, the $00000's i dont have that need spent, and wanting it finished about 12 months ago.
But I bought a nice new green grinder yesterday and made up patches for the old fuel tank line holes, un-nessisary drain holes in the floor and the like.
And magic'd up a set of these strengthening gussets:

Image

So more of the same to commence, then I will borrow my brothers MIG and my Oxy plant back for a day and weld in/fill remaining holes.
Then its back to fuck knows what. I need to find a diff and shorten it,
But i need to decide on wheels and offsets to do that,
Mini-tub the rear,
Then 6 link and turrett,
Finish seam welding in engine compartment,
Drill and plug around window and door openings (in the absence of a seam welder, grrr)
Then figure out what front suspension legs and x-member to use,
Make that fit,
Mount engine and box,
Hang self/get a loan?

Fuck I hate loving dicked-with old cars.
----

Lame update time:
I bought a new corded 500w drill and a new bench Vice, it has a swivel base..which id rather not have for strength reasons, but it could be handy.

So last nite, I Drilled the rivets and removed the factory brake line clip holders, and bonnet stay holder,
Wire wheeled any surface rust thats popped up since last year, (jesus, it was a year ago i seam welded it!?!)
Wire wheeled Engine-bay seams, and behind where the gussets will go,
Removed factory seam sealer where applicable,
Tapped up any bent bits I saw,
Cut out the rusted lips under the heater bubble and made patches.
----

Had a bit more progress on saturday afternoon. Wire wheeled the seam-welds I put on, Etch primed them.
Also Ground the penetration off on the inside floor and Wire wheeled, and again, Etched.
Dosent sound like much, but was a good 4 hour stint.
----

Just some pictures of the work undertaken since the last photo-less updates.

DEC 24, 2009. Captains Log

Recieved my Glass guards just then, pretty bloody stoked!
They arent 100% mint, but the amount of work they need negates that.
They also work out about the smae weight from memory.

Cant wait till lunch to sit them on and rub one outward.

Total cost was $546+, and I had to pay freight because i live on the fairer island, that was 70+

Turnaround from time or ordering, making and recieving, was a couple days under a month

EDIT: Fucked off with the guards, noticed they have no mounting points at all, and the part you see when the door is open, is completely missing, would flex and looks shithouse. Dont really know where to go from here.

Spent a couple hours welding it yesterday, seam sealer between panels keeps blowing out welds, popping and burning me.
Sometimes I wish i never started this fucking car.

----

So ive started to cut out the rear tubs, proving a cunt, as the boot bracing that goes to the wheel tub is hard to get at and i need a Plasma for the weekend (cheers brother) to whip them out fully.

Also got a free Hilux rear diff housing.

yeah

----

CUTTIN HOLES IN SHIT, N SHIT!

All completed without the plasma I though I needed..

----
Thanks to Blair in Timaru, i have another CA18DE block, crank, pistons, girdle etc free!
Ta bro, now i can sort out that locked up crank situation!

Ooooh shiny new pink Exedy Sports Tuff HD Cushion Button clutch

----

I have aquired a Hilux rear end, drum to drum, and will collect it this weekend along with the S12 front I have in stock at my parentals..let the fun begin!
----

^pertaining to the aforementioned, here are some illustrations.
I didnt get any of the diff, because they all look rather similar. It came out of the Hilux a dream, easiest extraction ive done yet.

Front of the S12 wasnt too hard either thanks to the old man attacking it with the front end loader and rat gun.

I was dropped to see how close the front was to Escort size. Of course there will be heavy modifcations to fit it nicely, but fuck, pretty close Ted.

Looks good.

XSPower manifolds have a proven record of breaking at the flanges. (well the ones i dealt with early on)
Id suggest re-welding the flange both sides creating a bracket to support the turbo so the manifold isn't supporting any of the weight of the turbo. and getting the flange resurfaced.

rereading what i wrote i said both sides i meant to say reweld at both flanges.

Its more to do with the metal that they are made from rather than the actual welding

So turb flange and head flange..
Come to think, those are the only welds anyway, but a sweet way to ramp up our post count

I need to whack a wastegate mount in the collectors someplace too, so ill re-weld when doing that.
