Got a WOF on the 620 this morning
Went to the post office to put rego on it and left like this
As of the 1st of July, registration goes up. Ok, that happens....
I had to pay the new price cos the date the hold on my rego expires is after the 1st of July... gutted, but oh well.
THEN I find out that it costs MORE to register a ute than it does a car, even if they are both registered for private passenger use. WHAAAAT!?
Went on the Land Transport website and it's not even updated with the new rego pricing so I can't find anything about why there is a difference, and the old pricing was no different between car/ute.
Can anyone explain this???
Cos I just got RIPPED $87 for 3 months rego
Registration just ripped my undies

Nothing should have changed? If it's listed as for private passenger use can they just decide to make it commercial?
Re: Registration just ripped my undies
Dunno but should still be classed as a passenger car
MA (Passenger car)
Example of Class MA (Passenger car).
A passenger vehicle (other than a class MB or class MC vehicle) that has not more than nine seating positions (including the driver's seating position).
MB (Forward control passenger vehicle)
Example of Class MB (Forward control passenger vehicle).
A passenger vehicle (other than a class MC vehicle):
* that has not more than nine seating positions (including the driver's seating position); and
* in which the centre of the steering wheel is in the forward quarter of the vehicle's total length.
MC (Off-road passenger vehicle)
Example of MC (Off-road passenger vehicle).
A passenger vehicle, designed with special features for off-road operation, that has not more than nine seating positions (including the driver's seating position), and that:
* has four-wheel drive; and
* has at least four of the following characteristics when the vehicle is unladen on a level surface and the front wheels are parallel to the vehicle's longitudinal centre-line and the tyres are inflated to the vehicle manufacturer's recommended pressure:
o an approach angle of not less than 28 degrees;
o a breakover angle of not less than 14 degrees;
o a departure angle of not less than 20 degrees;
o a running clearance of not less than 200mm;
o a front-axle clearance, rear-axle clearance or suspension clearance of not less than 175mm.

IMO prob just another way of revenue gathering

Re: Registration just ripped my undies
I decided to be one of those annoying overreacting customers
So I called Land Transport and the girl on the phone spoke to me like I was retarded and didn't know the difference between a ute and a car... but she couldn't answer any of my questions and couldn't explain why the price is now different between utes and cars, but told me to contact ACC as it was because of the new ACC levy. I checked their website as well and they don't have any information about it either. Was going to call the helpdesk, but couldn't be bothered waiting on hold for 5 years so I sent them an email.
To be continued??
