gingofthesouth's Orangatang 510
Soo here is my rebuilt thread without the bullshit.
1972 Datsun 1600
Purchased a couple years back and looked like this: Under what looked like a nice wee car was possible the worst case scenario. Rust for Africa, nothing lining up 100%, overspray on everything.
Before we get on with the build thread here is what the car currently looks like: Time to rebuild.
Stripped almost everything out of the car and took it to sand blaster to get engine bay and under car done: The result was SMH material. It showed the engine bay had been full of rust and bog. More importantly it made it extra clear how bad the front end damage was: And rust in the sill caps: So it was decided to go over the entire car bit by bit. The first and only bit of good news came when we removed all paint off the roof and pillars to find no rust there.
So it was onto the doors which I wanted shaved, and the side mirrors removed: This continued for all 4 doors:

So this continued for all 4 doors which also were full of rust and needed new patches put in on 3, and a new door for the 4th.
Front passenger door needed replacing as it was buggered and absolutely full of bog: Shaving and rust repairs:

Re: gingofthesouth's 510
Because of the shaved doors I did not want to spoil the lines by leaving the petrol intake where it was. This was removed from the side and placed behind the number plate:

Re: gingofthesouth's 510
Whole right rear guard needed replacing as the previous job was a hatchet job!
The door locks needed filling in and the bolts for the seat belts replaced with nuts welded in on the inside! Repairs to the front water drain area: Front guards needed repair: Take the paint off and you will find bog! Yuck this has to go!

The front.
Well we purchased a spares car to use the front off. Had that sand blasted and used spot weld drill bits to remove both fronts and swap them over with some other rust repairs on the way!
Front removed from spare car: All fixed and ready to go! Front off the proper car ready for the other front to go on: Front on, valance on, guards on etc and sealed:
