Whats it worth?
Whats it worth?
So the other day I chased down an old guy driving a b310 wag in a carpark and asked him if he wanted to sell it. Its all original and is in good condition from what I can tell (didnt have a good look or drive though) except for a small amount of cracking in the paint. The guy just rang me back and said his friend who owns it (is part of a 200car collection apparently) would sell it but would want around 4k. Its a round headlight 120y model. I have no pics but its orange and the owner lives in hornby so some of you guys may have seen it around. Do you think 4k seems reasonable?

Re: Whats it worth?
Depends on how straight and genuinely rust-free the body is, and how good the paint is.
$4k does seem pretty steep. But a rusty one (and that would be most B310's) would easily end up owing you more than $4k if you had to pay to have it panelled and painted.

Thanks for that. Being owned by an old guy as part of a collection id say it would be pretty legitimate so I might go have a look and make him an offer at least. Any where in particular these rust?fast4motion wrote:Depends on how straight and genuinely rust-free the body is, and how good the paint is.

I think if it is tidy and original take it, 310's are appreaciating in value of late! ESPECIALLY round headlight ones! Round headlight wagons are somewhat rare as well, you see the odd square headlight ones however round headlight ones are really rare in my eyes anyway...Ive only seen two, Brendans one and one in wellington.
Of corse badger him but if you want the car whats it worth to you?!
IMO $4000 is worth a good thought, I'd do it if I had that amount!

RUST
Well sedans rust everywhere haha, na mainly above the doors along the sill close to the windows, ALWAYS check that bottom of the doors. Check the rear wheel arches on the inside of the door. Poke your head under the car, check that the chassis rails look good...mine are well dented haha.
End of the day it WILL have rust bro but its how much rust it has is what your looking for. There are GC's on here that can help bro ask them if they wanna look at it with ya!

Re: Whats it worth?
I know this car and the owner has a large collection of old japanese and mostly american cars - has an auction on every now and then i think its held on wairakei road at the winery.
This particular car is one of the best original looking examples of a round headlight wagon around in my opinion.

Re: Whats it worth?
yup i know the guy too, john stewart is his name, has a warehouse full of awesome old holdens. I bought a mint VL commodore off him about 3 weeks ago. If its the orange datsun, I asked to buy it maybe a year ago, it has a bit of bog in it, I had a pretty good look all around/scan with a magnet. The guy you would have chased down would be the caretaker, he handles all the riff raff that wants to buy his cars. 4k is a bit much, and he doesn't like to negotiate...I just scored the commodore cheap because it was part of a no reserve auction.

Re: Whats it worth?
I think 4K is too much if it has bog in it.
You say the paint has cracking, thats usually caused by shrinkage in the filler/stopping underneath the top coat. For 4K it would have to be like new IMO.
