Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
Looks interesting i'll have to keep an eye out at the scrap yard for thoes sensors and trigger wheels. If we got them over here that is.

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
you could probably get a new sensor from bnt or auto electrical store. as for the trigger, probably easier to machine one than trying to locate one at a wreckers. either way, will make for a much better ignition system

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
the mega squirt ECU forums probally have good info on where to get all the sensor stuff.
I think its like DIY autotune.com or something has a lot of that stuff new.
I have heard of people running just the electronics of the dizzy, ( IE CAS and wheel ) and just making a blanking plate for it ) then using that as the signal for their coil packs or whatever

The Answer to your Question is NEEDS MORE VG30

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
or i was thinking about using a crank trigger to fire one coil and the dizzy cap to send the spark to the plugs should be easy using a crank wheel with pins at 90 just trying to work out how to advance the timing .
Any thoughts
That is until I can afford to go EFI and coil pack .
I was talking to a guy today that's bike nut he was saying 750 Suzuki EFI bikes have 40mm quads on them hmm

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
For my 323 that I was going to squirt I got a V3 box and had gutted out a RX7 dizzy with electric pulse triggering and put the components into the 323 dizzy. you just have to file off one of the lobes on the top wheel. 20V toyotas have 45mm ITBs. food for thought

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
HMMM Bike quads just seem better ie more compact and some have standoffs as well as injectors in them .
Trying to do away with the dizzy other than to distribute the spark taking away some of the play in the timing Jaycars do a ignition module but i was thinking using one out of a newer car using a crank trigger with four points to trigger it will the ignition module take care of the advance curve just looking at this as a very cheap ignition upgade .
or is it to points one for 1 and 4 and one for 3 and 2

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
OK what? So your going to lock the advance curve on the distributer and use a crank trigger via an Ignition module with an adjustable electronic curve to set your timing?
If your going to do that why not just buy an electronic distributer which essentially does the same thing and is simpler to us/diagnose faults with and good ones come with adjustable curves.
Or if your going to put a crank trigger ignition on it why not throw away the dizzy all together and just use it to trigger a wasted spark setup?

Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
1
and you still have the play from the dizzy drive ts way to the points ,as your revs rise spark drifts you get the idea
2 where is the fun in that
and you still have the play from the dizzy drive
3 very cool but is it easy CHEAP to do ? using the dizzy would make it simpler and just use crank trigger like points or a electronic distributer
could you use a Ignition module with an adjustable electronic curve from a later model car to pick up crank trigger and fire late model coil ?
I'm just thinking about having a play till i can get my EFI built first is getting some paint on my car and on the road
1 Yer old Datsun motors (any old motor ) has play in dizzy every little bit ads up as it works iwhere is the fun in thatDAT620 wrote:OK what? Re: interesting info on crank trigger ignition
Was thinking about this today trying make what I'm trying to say more clearer
If I make a crank wheel with points at 360 and at 180 deg that would fire the coil for 1 and 4 when the pickup picks up the pin at 360 and 3 and 2 at 180 .
Then use a Ignition module with an adjustable electronic curve to do the advance do modern cars with dizzys use only electronic advance ?
The dizzy is just to distribute the spark one coil one module .
Then when i get my EFI up and running I can just change the wheel and finally run a coil pack .
Have I been on to much coffee or wasting my time .
Any comments are helpful thanks
