E15ET ENGINE TO L16 DOGLEG 5spd G BOX DO THEY MATE UP?

Post by chube82 »

Hi Guys
Just interested to know does a E15ET Engine (FWD LANGLEY/PULSAR)Mate up to a L16 5spd g box,
Thinking of trying something different like a RWD E15ET in a 160j coupe , I like to go against the grain, be a bit different.
I got a engine (E15ET)and a box so will find out soon, just got to pull the engine out.

What do you guys reckon waste of time or cool let me know,
other option was to put some carbys on a SR20DE, still undecided .

You could likely graft an E series bell housing onto another kind of rwd 5 speed, but a problem you may encounter is the dizzy sticks out the back of thehead, and will hit the firewall.

I do like your thinking, but one thing to be wary of is chopping a hole in the firewall the dizzy may interfere with the heaterbox.

good call,thank you mate.
good to hear your feedback,
I got a thing for the old E15ET,its in a N13 sentra at the moment with a T25 ,can hook 3rd gear doing a burnout.
4th and clutch starts slipping.
I just pulled the turbo off so my bro could use on his drift car as he blew his turbo( S14)
Was drifting down Meremere then blew the diff.

Ah decided to get off my Arse and have a look see at what you are talking about.

And i see what you mean when you say the distributor will be close to the heater box in side the fire wall,
It will go in a lot,Its actually longer than i visualised it .

These are an under rated wee engine all the same. Another option could be to flag the dizzy, and fit a (modifed) cam angle sensor from like a CA18det, and then run either remapped ca18det management, or another kind of ecu to run it. Then you'd also gain the advantage of compter controlled spark advance, which opens up a whole new area of tunability (Or a whole nother can of worms? lol) if you want to really turn the wick up on it.
I did read about a guy in Aussie who had an E15et in a datsun 1000 ute at datsun1200.com. I think he just ran the dizzy through the firewall, and left it at that. (As in it didn't sound like he fabricated new steel to isolate it from the cabin)
Someone at datsun1200.com may know what the go is regarding fitting a rwd gear box to an E seires motor though. I'm sure that at least a couple of people have done it.
Although, once again, if you are going to all the trouble of converting an FWD engine to rwd, maybe you might consider something a little bit newer? I'm buggered if I can remember what they're called, but nissan have quite a smart 1.6l (It think) twin cam motor which are pretty cheap to buy. (Toby put one in his ute)

That said, I can fully dig that you want to use the motor you have, rather than having to spend money on something you don't. So I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to tell you what you should do.

You are the man,(with a rubber arm?)
The dizzie uses an optical sensor to monitor cam angle, so it is a primitive design to the cam angle sensor that we all are used to know,so could be a option.
Apparently Nissans first use of an electronic monitered dizzie back in 84.
At this stage will concentrate on repairing the violater(160j)as she has now been named.

The 1.6 ltr you are talking about is a G16a? i think(could be wrong?)and as luck has it i have one kicking around at home,I pulled it out of the N13 ages ago when i fitted the E15ET innit.
Oh yea i got another E15Et too i just rememberd sitting with the G16a.
I am a horder and proud, might use it next decade.

Your opinions are appreciated.

Offer me a beer sometime, and you'll find my arm is easily twisted. lol

The dizzy vs CAS thing, the dizzy has mech advance weights inside it, whereas the CAS does not. So you'd need some other form of managment system to control the timing. Hence why the dizzy stick out so far I guess.

You certinly have you work cut out for you fixing the Viol8R. It looks like it's been violated by the evil rust goblins.
Having a shed full of motors is always a win! Might be a GA16de?
