Re: 1974 1200 SSS
It's only worth what someone is prepared to pay.
I'm sure it's worth what you're asking, it's just trying to find someone who has that much money, and wants a sss that badly. At the end of the day, $9k buys a lot of car these days. It wont depreciate like most things though.

They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
Re: 1974 1200 SSS
Its still rego'd as a STD 1200, like you have said in your ad on TM. Plus the re-shelling. Most people would look at it for what it is ATM. A STD 1200, with carbs, cam and "SSS" Badges. One of which looks to be a 120Y SSS Badge(The one on the glove box lid). As most people into Datsun's usually dont have 9k to throw at something, that isnt really genuine.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

Re: 1974 1200 SSS
as i have the original plates certs etc for the car it is a genuine SSS its the hassle of having to re-register the car that i think is stopping them. i have all the history of the car up until it was taken off the road and reshelled etc and when people have viewed the car they can see that is a genuine sss. the first auction of the car ended with 1 bid but it turned out to be not genuine. and over that time i had around 10 ppl come and view the car and are happy that is genuine so hopefully when people come to view it they get more of an idea about how the rego can be changedBlair wrote:Its still rego'd as a STD 1200, like you have said in your ad on TM. Re: 1974 1200 SSS
This car has popped up 2 or so times for sale in last 5 years?
Im with the others on price, whatever someone will pay. A mint standard one would/has gone for around 8K so with SSS bits should sell for more theoretically.
If it is the same car that has been for sale before (same colour, same city being sold from, reshelled), and you mentioning the reshelling that would get the GENUINE SSS seekers peoples suspicion aroused. If its reshelled its not a genuine SSS. If you swap all the parts including plates, certs, nuts, bolts, badges etc etc onto a deluxe shell, then get it reregistered with SSS plates/tags, it does not become a SSS by default because you have done this (even though SSS models were converted Deluxe sedans.)
Besides, if you get the wrong (knowledgeable) dude at LTA when your reregistering the car using the destroyed SSS cars plates, you could end up having both VIN/Chassis numbers black listed. Trust me, a mate of a mate that tried to do this to an 808 to make it a RX-3. Why? because its not legal, there are no grounds anywhere that you can transfer the identity of one car to another, no matter if you own both etc etc.
Doesn't matter how many of the bolts are the same/how you sugar coat it, look at the different prices that are paid between the real Falcon GTs and replicas, or 808s and RX-3s, even though they are the same shells too.
Looks great though.

Re: 1974 1200 SSS
have to agree with Flauski, its still a reshelled car, however it does appear to be a very very tidy car.
hard to say what its worth, I would probably guess around 6-8k if its as tidy as pictured.

Re: 1974 1200 SSS
My 2c (as a B110 owner/fan):
It is a nice clean looking example. and i like it for sure!
But is is a shame about the registration status. not that anyone is accusing you of anything dodgey, or corrupt. but it would have been better to do a discrete reshell, and swap everything else over and retain plates & tags. the SSS is a standard deluxe shell with some bolt on bits and some painted stripes after all! however the previous owner not retaining SSS on the papers, and not having black plates, has unwittingly devalued the car considerably, and opened the door for a lot of authenticity questions and opinions.
There was a very nice original restored 1200 SSS, that sold by a local enthusiast down here about 3-4 years ago for I think it was $11995. and a SSS IMO will only increase in value over time.
I sold my restored 1200 as a roller, because purchaser is reshelling his SSS, and swapping everything else (same as what you have done) but he will be retaining plates and tags and SSS history.
Obviously it is not abnormal for competition cars and classic BDA escorts and the likes to be reshelled on a semi regular basis! doesnt meant you dont see these on trademe for $80K!
IMO your asking price is fair enough (if it is as clean as it looks) I know what I spent on mine and sold it for.
You have a reasonably small niche' market for such a car. if I had spare money I would be interested for sure, but you need a genuine Datto fan to appreciate the car for what it is, and pay accordingly.
I think you would be a fool to sell for anything under 8K as it sits. I think if it had original Black plates & SSS doc's then I would be thinking 10-12K as it sits, and more like 15-16K if engine bay was cleaned up and resprayed, rust was addressed, and the old girl got some new carpet and any other tired / worn areas were addressed, back to former glory.
Thats just my opinion, and like arseholes everyone has one.
Good luck for the sale, and I hope you get what you want for it.

Re: 1974 1200 SSS
for you to get the money you want, is re-registering it properly as a sss yourself an option??
people are much more likely to part with money if something as important as this is already done, not because you're trying to sell a dodgy sounding car but maybe they think there's no gaurantee that they can re-register as a sss due to redtape making it too hard and therefore paid a heap for a deluxe instead of a sss, or as most kiwi's cant be bothered doing it themselves?? (i like it buy the way, little bit if history)

Re: 1974 1200 SSS
i do have the original black plates and all the history of the car up until 1989 when it was de-regeistered and sat in a field till another guy purchased it for restoration. all the original chassis, engine numbers are all there with the black plates. but yes i do agree with you i think if i re-registered it myself i would have no problem selling it at that price. cheers for your comment though seems very fair and justified. will look into re-registering the car abit more thoroughally and might pull it off trade me if its not a to difficult processKitch wrote:My 2c (as a B110 owner/fan):
