Z18ET Headache !

Post by datman310 »

I'm looking for some help / to be pointed in the right direction, I have not alot of experience with EFI, used to carbs and points, anyway the Z18ET in my bluebird seems to have a issue when you put your foot down it just coughs and splutters. it starts fine and if driven softly will run fine. I have checked the AFM seems to be working. plugs look ok coils are new-ish GT40's.

timings correct and was going awesome when i first got it. but seems to have developed this wee issue that seems to be intermittent

could it be fuel pump or computer? I have another motor im getting soon will try swapping computers over see what happens then

Can anyone shed some light on my issue?

are you SUPER sure its not your afm? have you tried disconnecting it and taking it for a thrash? it runs like absolute crap until you hit boost, then it should run rich as, but not cough or splutter once in boost

You might need to try another Crank Angle Sensor or another Ignition Module after the AFM these are the next most likely to go bad.

Steve , My Nissan Z manual has a few testing procedures for some of these electronics, although different models the electronics are of a simialr type and age

So if your keen to give it a nudge with the multi meter just let me know and we can take a look this weekend.

Hey mate the AFM plug has a spring wire plug set up... you have to pry the spring clip outwards on both ends of the clip for it to release

yeah get a flat head screw driver onto the little metal band that clips around the AFM plug and just flick it off.

Bags lighting the rag if you decide to go that route, just let me strip all the suspension, brakes and driveline out first.
