coil as a electric fence unit

Post by 160jsss »

Ok not a Datsun question but I'm using a Datsun flasher unit to, trigger a coil to use as a electric fence but both coils I've tried got hot the old one I can understand it's one that uses a resistor but even a new type got hot nice big spark though any ideas on getting this to run or am barking up the wrong tree

Yes, you're barking up the wrong tree.
In a car dizzy, the condesor stores a charge while the points are closed. Then when they open the condenser discharges it's jolt of charge which goes through the two circuits of the coil maaking it discharge a high voltage spark.
And given how points will burn over time, I imagine your flasher unit would burn out almost instantly if you tried to use it with a condenser in the circuit.

PS, I might have got part of how that works back to front. I'm not actually a mechanic.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

yea I would assume the dwell.
Being at Idle a coil would be firing around 1600 a min times based on 800Rpm

i made an electric fence unit in high school using a car coil. It was a weapon!

im pretty sure you can buy a cheap kit that you just need to add a coil to
