Help pls, temp gauge not working

Post by joelbrown »

I recently flushed my radiator and since then my temp gauge is on the piss. It hardly moves at all now, it used to get to half way and stay there during normal running and a little higher when givin a thrash. Now it barely moves 2mm from off position.... Thorts pls? Cheers

Do you have an air lock? If there is no water to transfer heat to the gauge sender then it won't register as hot. Just a thought. Also you may have dislodged something off the block and it could be stuck in the Thermostat, holding it open.

What Vaughan said.
Might pay to remove and check thermostat AND temp sender, as sender may be surround by a buildup too.

groovy, ta. i will whip them both out n hava look see. -pretty sure the thermostat is wkn tho as wen i re-filled radiator (after doin flush) i ran eng 4 a while with rad cap off n after a wee bit wen it got hot the water level in rad dropped big time (and i topped up accordingly) - i assume that wud be the thermostat crackn open and doin its job yo

Temp sender looked ok, no crud build up, no air lock. As far as thermostat, it wasnt jammed up n didnt look dodgy, but im certainly no expert- honestly its the 1st time ive ever pulled 1 out. -- im thinkn i mite aswell jst go shoppin 4 a new thermostat and temp sender n c wots the go

DO you have a ohm meter, I could tell you the readings on my sender and you could compare, I'd imagine they are the same.

if you want to test a couple a things get a mate to sit in the drivers seat and watch the temp gauge while you unplug the wire from sender and touch the wire on earth breifly and if your mate see it move then gauge is good
