My sister Lizzie is having a few issues with her 120Y. She mentioned to me that it would often die while she was driving it and is quite difficult to start afterwards. New points have been fitted recently as well as leads and plugs. Could it be a carb issue? May need rebuilding? I know the valve stem seals need replacing but unsure if that could have anything to do with it. Thanks in advance.

I'd start by rekitting the carb. And make sure it doesn't have any air leaks. Check things like the vac advance diaphram isn't ruptured.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

What time of day, may be icing up if it was teal cold. When was the fuel filter replaced? I am happy to look at it for her, these A series are real simple. Who did the points? How did they set them up?

Fuel filter was done recently also. Unsure on time of day but would most likely have been in the afternoon. Brendan did the points for us and it ran a lot better after that. But he did mention it needed a bit work to be run 100%

Re: A series gurus. I need you!
Swapped the carb over on friday with the one I got from Scott. Still not 100% though.. don't know if I've done something wrong when putting it all back together but upon starting the car up it seemed to idle ok with the choke out still a bit rough. Put choke in and then the revs went up to about 3500rpm ish then back down again but died if I didn't keep my foot on the gas
Any of you local A series fiends able to come check it out for me sometime?? She wants to go for her restricted soon so would like to get it sorted as soon as poss. Carb I put on had been rebuilt a while back so it shouldn't be that??
