620 ute and n10 Pulsar

Post by 82m »

So on friday I drove to Auckland from Tauranga to go have a look at a 1979 Datsun 620 ute.
I was pretty happy with the condition. It has had a fresh panel and paint (fresh as in the guy took it apart, painted it and then just left it for a couple of years).
So I bought it and drove back to tauranga with my rolling body on the trailer.

By monday I had the cab off the chassis and had that painted up with some under body sealer. I had my A15 mounted to the chassis with customised engine and gearbox mounts. I am planning on putting my high lift cam in it and modifying a set of extractors to fit in the engine bay. I thought I had a dual side draught intake manifold, but it turns out they are for a A12. So that may have to wait (unless someone here has a set they are willing to part with).

So this friday I have to go back up to auckland to get the other rolling body, engine, gearbox, two decks and all the parts to reassemble two utes.

My friend is also building a datsun, its a 1981 N10 Pulsar. He has also been busy this weekend, removing his E13 and preping the replacement, an E15et.

How do I put photos up?

Cheers

It's not impossible to port out a round port manifold to fit an A15. You may have to drill and tap an extra stud in the head, but that is no biggie. (Motor will have to come apart somewhat to fit cam anyway)

The paint looks good in the pictures.
Pity the engine bay wasn't done too.

Another busy weekend just been. Drove back up to Auckland to pick up my other ute and all the parts to make them complete. The drive home was interesting to say the least. One '89 Navara towing a single axle trailer with no brakes, with one ute, two decks and a whole heap of parts in the rain was pretty sketchy. But we made it home alright.

Over the course of the weekend I was able to finish making my gearbox mounts, finish painting my chassis, modify my oil sump to clear the steering and cross member and mark my driveshaft and extractors ready for modification.

Fergie was able to assemble the bottom end of his new engine and get that all painted up. He is currently waiting to get his head back from the machine shop. Then we will be able to start fabrication on the turbo setup.

Pictures to come, hopefully tomorrow.

Have just got my hands on a GM 3L 4 cyl that will be finding a home in my other ute after a freshin up.

Updates will be coming more frequently now, a clutch on the girlfriends car turned into a bit of a mission and comitments with my band have slowed me down.
